Iggy: "ugh, it's hot...." / "vee, varmegas..."

Iggy shows just how i feel right now in the above photo-- i just want to flop over and do nothing! but our move is getting closer and closer, so there will be none of that. our move date is now set for next Tuesday the 17th and there is lots to do! before that, however is Iggy's birthday!! according to RSPCA records, Iggy was born on January 14th, 2010. :) i'll be posting a special birthday post for him, of course, but starting Jan. 16th we will be internetless for at least a week.

currently the plan is to empty out one of the bedrooms before the movers arrive, put all of the cats' things in it and close the cats in the room while everything is being loaded into the truck. this place is pretty small, so hopefully it shouldn't take very long. we will then let the cats out and leave them here while we go to the new place (a townhouse, wooo! byebye little apartment!!) with the movers and get the basic things situated. we will then go back to the apartment and bring the cats and their things over and will set them up in one of the rooms for a while so they can calm down while we unpack etc.

nuntempe la plano estas jene: ni malplenigos unu el la dormĉambroj antaŭ ol la transloĝiĝistoj alvenos kaj ni metos ĉiujn aĵojn de la katoj en la dormĉambro kaj enfermos la katojn en la dormĉambro dum ĉio estas ŝarĝita en la ŝarĝaŭto. la nuna apartamento estas malgranda, do espereble tio ne bezonos multe da tempo. ni malfermos la dormĉambron de la katoj kaj forlasos ilin en la apartamento dum ni iros al la nova loĝejo ("townhouse" aŭ ligita domo/vic-domo, jej! adiaŭ, eta apartamento!!) kun la transloĝiĝistoj. post tio ni reiros al la apartamento kaj portos la katoj kaj iliaj aĵoj al la nova loĝejo kaj enfermos ilin en unu ĉambro, por ke ili povos trankviliĝi dum ni malpakas ktp.

i've been thinking. why do people feed their pets kibble?

kibble is basically astronaut food. seriously, think about it. what is astronaut food? scientifically formulated "food" that is designed to have "everything" you need and pretty much nothing else. it's extremely processed, dry and is made to taste like stuff that hardly resembles what it orignally may have been. what is kibble? the same thing.

to me, feeding your pets kibble is like feeding your children (or yourself) astronaut food. all the time. seriously. would YOU want to live off little pellets that have "everything" you need? would you feed your children that? so why do people feed their beloved four-legged friends that???

because it's "easier" on the wallet? more convenient? because your vet recommended it? in case you didn't know, vets get paid to recommend it and vets are NOT dietitians or nutritionists any more than general practitioners are.

think about it. please.

i'm seriously thinking about making a page on this blog dedicated to raw food for cats and i think i will use the above as the openning to it. i am no expert when it comes to diets or nutrition for cats, of course. the page would just be a place for me to voice my opinions, show how/what i feed my cats and provide links to further information on the topic. it might take me a while to compile everything i'd need for such a page, but i think i'll try.

seka manĝaĵo por bestoj estas kvazaŭ manĝaĵo por kosomonaŭtoj. serioze, pensu pri tio. kio estas manĝaĵo por kosmonaŭtoj? "manĝaĵo" scienco-bazita por enhavi "ĉion", kiun oni bezonas kaj apenaŭ ion ajn alian. ĝi estas multege procedita,sekigita kaj estas dizajnita por gusti simila al la manĝaĵo de kiu ĝi eble devenis sed al kiu ĝi tute ne plu vere rilatas. kio estas seka manĝaĵo por bestoj? la sama aĵo.

miaopinie, donadi al la dormbestoj sekan manĝaĵon estas kvazaŭ donadi al la geinfanoj (aŭ al vi mem) manĝaĵon por kosmonaŭtoj. notu la -ad-n. serioze. ĉu VI volus manĝi ĉiutage malgrandajn sekajn bulojn, kiuj enhavas "ĉion", kiun vi bezonas? ĉu vi donus al la infanoj tion? kial do homoj donadas tion al siaj amataj kvar-piedaj amikoj???

ĉu ĉar tio estas "pli facila"? aŭ pli oportuna? ĉu ĉar la bestkuracisto rekomendis ĝin? parenteze, se i ne jam scias, bestkuracistoj gajnas monon por rekomendi ĝin kaj ili NE estas spertuloj pri nutraĵo same kiel ĝeneralaj doktoroj ne estas.

pensu pri tio, mi petas.

mi serioze pensadas pri fari paĝeton en ĉi tiu blogo pri kurda manĝaĵo por katoj kaj mi pensas, ke mi uzos la supran tekston kiel la komencaĵo. kompreneble, mi ne estas spertulo pri nutraĵo por katoj. la paĝeto simple estus ejo, kie mi povus disdoni miajn opiniojn, montri kiel/kion mi donas al miaj katoj kaj disponigi ligliojn al pluaj informoj pri la afero. eble mi bezonos multe da tempo por kompili ĉion, kio estas necesa por tia paĝeto, sed mi pensas, ke mi provos tion fari.

Americana Kitty

happy belated 4th of July to all the Americans out there! i hope you all enjoyed it. :) it's really hard to celebrate the 4th abroad... :( but with it being the 4th (or rather 5th) of July and all, i figured i'd post about Americana Kitty!

Americana Kitty is a plushie that i made on the same day that i made Iggy's coat. more details about the making of AK can be found at my livejournal.

Iggy likes to pretend that he's all "buddy buddy" with AK, but then he's all claws and teeth! i keep trying to tell him that AK is not a toy, but nooooooo...... everything is a toy to Iggy.

plaĉas al Iggy ŝajnigi, ke li estas la plej bona amiko de AK, sed post tio li subite mordadas kaj gratadas! mi provadas klarigi al Iggy, ke AK ne estas ludilo, sed neeeeeeeeee...... al Iggy ĉio estas ludilo.

Fae is generally (but not always) nicer to AK. she even let AK feel her fur. :) if you ask me, though, i think AK might have been a little jealous.... maybe i should have given AK a nice, soft coat. :p

ĝenerale (sed ne ĉiam) Fae estas pli afabla al AK. ŝi eĉ permesis, ke AK palpi ŝian felon. :) sed mi opinias, ke eble AK estis iome ĵaluza.... eble estus pli bone, se mi uzis molan felon por fari AK. :p

now i'm considering trying to make a toy or two for them. :) nothing fancy, maybe felt mice or something.... i also have a coat planned for Fae, but alas! so much to make, so little time!

another lesson learned / ankoraŭ unu lernita leciono

Fae finally did it! as an ice breaker Fae slowly went up to him, settled down and proceeded to try to clean him but Iggy wasn't having that... WHY?? men.... *shakes head* after several tries and several nips + glares from Iggy she finally just curled up and went to sleep. thankfully Iggy at least allowed that. hmph!

finfine Fae ĝin faris! unue Fae malrapide alproksimiĝis al li, kuŝis apud li kaj komencis purigi lin, sed tio ne plaĉis al Iggy..... KIAL?? viroj.... *malaprobante kapneas* post kelkaj provoj kaj kelkaj mordetoj + malafabla rigardado de Iggy, ŝi finfine ĉesis purigi lin kaj endormiĝis. dankinde almenaŭ tion Iggy permesis. hmph!

on a much more serious note, last night we had a really big scare. Iggy and Fae were chasing each other back and forth all over the place as usual and somehow Fae got her head caught in one of the blind cords.... i heard weird noises and ran to see what happened and found Fae frantically gasping & kicking while hanging from the cord by her head... her feet couldn't reach the ground. if neither of us had heard her or if this had happened while we weren't home..................... let this be a lesson to all with cats and blinds or dangling cords of any kind. such cords can be deadly.

kaj multoble pli serioze, la pasintan nokton okazis grandega teruro ĉe ni. kiel kutime Iggy kaj Fae ĉaskuradis unu la alian tra la tuta apartamento kaj iele la kapo de Fae kaptiĝis per krodo de ĵaluzio..... mi aŭdis strangajn sonojn kaj kuris por vidi kio okazis. mi trovis Fae, kiu panikante spiraĉadis kaj piedbatadis la aeron dum ŝi pendis sur kordo per la kapo... ŝia piedoj ne povis atingi la plankon. se ni ne aŭdis ŝin aŭ se tio okazis, kiam ni ne hejme estis.......................... ĉi tio estu leciono por ĉiuj, kiuj havas katojn kaj ĵaluzioj aŭ aliaj pendantaj kordoj. tiaj kordoj povas esti mortigaj.

ESTAS TRO STRIKTA MALVESTIGI NUN!

it's officially fall here in Australia and the weather has gotten cooler. in response, petstores have started filling their stores with dog clothes (AND NO CAT CLOTHES DAMN DARN THEM)... what is a cat owner who likes pet fashion and who is concerned about their cat's warmth suppose to do?? whatever the answer to that question may be, i've given into temptation and have bought a dog coat (or two!) for Fae to try. the first coat, which i bought some time ago but haven't posted about yet, fit fine. however, tonight i bought another one and it doesn't it at all. it doesn't fit in the chest area, front legs & neck-- poor Fae could barely walk.

Aŭstralie la sezono oficiale fariĝis aŭtuno kaj la vetero fariĝis pli malvarma. laŭ tio, dombest-vendejoj plenigas siajn vendejoj per vestaĵoj por hundoj (KAJ NE POR KATOJ, FEK VE).... kion faru posedanto de kato, al kiu plaĉas dombesta modo kaj kiu maltrankviliĝas pri la varmeco de sia kato?? malgraŭ la respondo al tiu demando, mi falis en tenton kaj aĉetis unu (aŭ du!) hund-jakojn por Fae. la unuan jakon (kiun mi delonge aĉetis sed ankoraŭ ne menciis ĉi tie) Fae povas bone surhavi. tamen, ĉi-nokte mi aĉetis duan kaj Fae tute ne povas ĝin surhavi bone. ĝi estas ege tro strikta ĉe la brusto, antaŭaj kruroj kaj kolo-- kompatinda Fae povis apenaŭ paŝi.

LESSON LEARNED: cats are not built like dogs. do not expect dog clothes to fit a cat.

LERNITA LECIONO: katoj ne havas korpon saman kiel hundoj. ne antaŭpensu, ke vestaĵoj por hundoj taŭgos por katoj.

....BUT. having successfully gotten the coat on Fae i couldn't NOT take photos of her in it! even though it was really mean to do so. i tried to be as quick as possible and thus didn't even take the time to correct the collar.

....SED. ĉar mi jam sukcese surhavigis la jakon sur Fae-n, mi ne povis NE foti Fae-n kun la jako! malgraŭ tio, ke tio estus tre malafabla. mi klopodis foti ŝin rapidege kaj pro tio mi eĉ ne ĝustigis la kolumon.

oh, and i also FINALLY got Fae new treats to replace the ones that we suspect may be triggering her allergy. we suspect (HOPE) that her allergy is related to seafood and it was hard to find treats that had no form of seafood in them. i finally found dried liver treats. :)

ho, kaj mi FINFINE aĉetis novan krommanĝaĵon por Fae por anstataŭigi la antaŭajn, kiuj eble igas ŝiajn alergiojn. ni suspektas (ESPERAS), ke ŝia alergio rilatas al marfrukto kaj estas tre malfacile trovi krommanĝaĵon sen ia ajn marfruktaĵo. finfine mi trovis krommanĝaĵon el sekigita hepataĵo. :)

Wii Fit Plus!

not long ago we got a Wii and Wii Fit Plus and Wii Fit Plus is LOTS of fun! sometimes Fae looks at me crazy when i use it, but that's just a bonus feature i guess lol. 8) but seriously, a really nice feature of Wii Fit Plus is that you can make an account for your dog or cat and you can use it to keep track of their weight. this is great for us because we don't have a conventional scale or anything,. :) and no, she doesn't stand on the Wii Fit board herself to be weighed despite what the photo may lead you to believe. that day she just felt like posing for the camera. :P

antaŭ ne longe ni aĉetis Wii-on kaj  "Wii Fit Plus"on (ludilon) kaj Wii Fit Plus estas TRE amuza! foje Fae rigardas min kvazaŭ mi estas frenezulo kiam mi ĝin ludas. mi supozas, ke tio estas kroma bonaĵo. 8) sed serioze, vera bonaĵo pri Wii Fit Plus estas, ke oni povas krei konton por kato aŭ hundo kaj per tio oni povas registradi ĝian korpopezon. tio estas oportuna por ni ĉar ni ne havas pesilon. :) kaj ne, malgraŭ la foto ŝi ne staras sole sur la Wii Fit plato por registri sian korpopezon. tiun tagon iale ŝi decidis sin prezenti bone antaŭ mia fotilo. :P

on a random note, i'm currently playing around with the blog layout. i'm not sure i'm happy with how it is now... perhaps it's a little too "busy"? i should make a layout from scratch but i'm too lazy, so i'm experimenting with the template thingie. let me know what you think? thanks. :)

hazarde mi diru, ke nuntempe mi eksperimentas kun la aspekto de la blogo. la nuna aspekto ankoraŭ ne tute plaĉas al mi... eble ĝi estas tro malsimpla? mi faru tute novan aspekton por la blogo sed mi tro pigras, do mi simple ŝanĝas kelkajn erojn de ĝi. bv diri al mi vian opinion pri ĝi. :)

cat training? / kat-trejnado?

today i went to a brief dog training session at the RSPCA and when i got home i thought "why not try that with Fae?" so i started trying to teach Fae to sit on command and made a quick video of it. we got some practice in before i started recording but still i'm really surprised at how well she's doing already, especially considering how she is around treats. :)

hodiaŭ mi partoprenis mallongan lecionon pri trejnado por hundoj ĉe la RSPCA kaj kiam mi hejmenvenis mi pensis "kial ne provu tion kun Fae?"do mi ekprovis instrui al Fae sidiĝi laŭ ordono kaj haste filmis ĝin. ni ekzerciĝis iom antaŭ ol mi komencis filmi, sed mi ankoraŭ tre surpriziĝis pri kiel bone ŝi jam lernas, precipe ĉar ŝi kutime frenezetiĝas pri manĝaĵo. :)

lately i've been watching an anime (Japanese animation) called くるねこ ("Kuruneko"). it's about a lady who takes in cats and ended up keeping 5 of them. one of the episodes is about トイレ・ハイ (literally "toilet high"). as stated in the episode, "toilet high" is "cats becoming high after pooing for some reason."

lastatempe mi spektas animeon (japanan animacion), kiu nomiĝas くるねこ ("Kuruneko"). ĝi temas pri virino, kiu hejmen portas senhejmajn katojn kaj fine alproprigis 5 el ili. unu el la epizodoj temas pri トイレ・ハイ (laŭvorte "neceseja ebrio"). laŭ la epizodo, "neceseja ebrio" estas jene: "iale katoj fariĝas ebriita post fekado."

Fae's toilet high/necesej-ebrio de Fae

Fae runs around like crazy when she's on her toilet high. lately she's been making a mad dash from the litter box into the kitchen, jumping onto the counter, microwave, fridge and wine rack until she's all the way up on top of the cupboard near the ceiling.

Fae ĉirkaŭkuras kvazaŭ ŝi freneziĝas kiam ŝi suferas necesejan ebrion. lastatempe ŝi ofte rapide kuras de ŝia necesejo al la kuirejo. ŝi saltas sur la kuirejtablon, miroondilon, vin-tenaĵon ĝis ŝi estas sur la ŝranko proksime al la plafono.
