Iggy: "ugh, it's hot...." / "vee, varmegas..."

Iggy shows just how i feel right now in the above photo-- i just want to flop over and do nothing! but our move is getting closer and closer, so there will be none of that. our move date is now set for next Tuesday the 17th and there is lots to do! before that, however is Iggy's birthday!! according to RSPCA records, Iggy was born on January 14th, 2010. :) i'll be posting a special birthday post for him, of course, but starting Jan. 16th we will be internetless for at least a week.

Iggy montras ekzakte kiel mi nuntempe sentas en la supra foto-- mi simple volas flankenfali kaj nenion fari! sed nia transloĝiĝa dato pli kaj pli proksimiĝas, do tion mi ne povas fari. la transloĝiĝa dato estas la venonta mardo, la 17a de januaro, kaj estas multe da farendaĵoj! sed antaŭ tio okazos la naskiĝtago de Iggy!! laŭ la rikordoj de la RSPCA, Iggy naskiĝis je la 14a de januaro 2010. :) kompreneble mi afiŝos specialan naskiĝtagan blogaĵon por li, sed ekde la 16a de januaro ni ne havos interreton dum almenaŭ unu semajno.

currently the plan is to empty out one of the bedrooms before the movers arrive, put all of the cats' things in it and close the cats in the room while everything is being loaded into the truck. this place is pretty small, so hopefully it shouldn't take very long. we will then let the cats out and leave them here while we go to the new place (a townhouse, wooo! byebye little apartment!!) with the movers and get the basic things situated. we will then go back to the apartment and bring the cats and their things over and will set them up in one of the rooms for a while so they can calm down while we unpack etc.

nuntempe la plano estas jene: ni malplenigos unu el la dormĉambroj antaŭ ol la transloĝiĝistoj alvenos kaj ni metos ĉiujn aĵojn de la katoj en la dormĉambro kaj enfermos la katojn en la dormĉambro dum ĉio estas ŝarĝita en la ŝarĝaŭto. la nuna apartamento estas malgranda, do espereble tio ne bezonos multe da tempo. ni malfermos la dormĉambron de la katoj kaj forlasos ilin en la apartamento dum ni iros al la nova loĝejo ("townhouse" aŭ ligita domo/vic-domo, jej! adiaŭ, eta apartamento!!) kun la transloĝiĝistoj. post tio ni reiros al la apartamento kaj portos la katoj kaj iliaj aĵoj al la nova loĝejo kaj enfermos ilin en unu ĉambro, por ke ili povos trankviliĝi dum ni malpakas ktp.

hopefully this will go well and i will have no bad stories to tell you all later...!

it's been a while since i've updated this blog properly, sorry AGAIN! things were really up and down for a while, but things seem to be improving now. i want to start 2012 off on the right foot!

jam pasis iom da tempo ĝis kiam mi ĝuste ĝisdatigis ĉi tiun blogon, pardonon DENOVE! la pasintajn kelkajn semajnojn mi estis iom malfeliĉa pro diversaj aferoj, sed nun tiuj aferoj verŝajne pliboniĝas iom post iom. mi volas komenci la novan jaron bone!

for the past couple of weeks (month?) Iggy has gotten bumps all over his head & neck and in other places around his body. he's been scratching and licking himself a lot.... at first i thought the bumps were just from his playfights with Fae, but it soon became apparent that they're a reaction to something. you may remember that Iggy was surrendered by his previous owner due to a supposed allergy to another cat... well i'm certain that this is that same "allergy", but it's obviously not to another cat and i can't think of any foodstuff that could have triggered it.... we now think it might be an environmental allergy or seasonal skin condition. on Tuesday we gave both Iggy & Fae a bath in special shampoo that's suppose to sooth itchy/irritated skin and it seems to have helped a lot, although only temporarily. perhaps we will have to give Iggy a bath on a weekly basis in the summer?

dum la pasintaj kelkaj semanoj (aŭ monato?) Iggy havas multe da etaj ŝvelaĵoj ĉie sur la kapo, kolo kaj sur aliaj lokoj sur la korpo. li ofte sin gratas kaj lekas..... unue mi pensis, ke la ŝveltaĵoj estis pro lud-batelado kun Fae, sed baldaŭ estis klare, ke la ŝveltaĵoj estis okazigiaj de ia alergio. eble vi memoras, ke la antaŭa posedanto de Iggy fordonis Iggy-n pro "algerio kontraŭ alia kato"..... nu, mi certas, ke la nuna alergio estas la sama "alergio", sed kompreneble la alergio ne estas kontraŭ alia kato. tamen, mi ankaŭ kredas, ke la alergio ne estas kontraŭ iu manĝaĵo.... mi nun pensas, ke eble la alergio rilatas al la medio (vetero, sezono, floroj, ktp). marde ni banis kaj Iggy kaj Fae per speciala ŝampuo, kiu helpas trankviligi jukan haŭton kaj ŝajnas, ke la ŝampuo multe helpis Iggy-n, almenaŭ dum iom da tempo. eble ni devos bani Iggy-n ĉiusemajne en somero?

meanwhile, the real estate drama that i've mentioned in previous posts has (hopefully) come to a conclusion! in 3 weeks we will be moving! while i've had cats in the past, i have no experience moving house with cats... does anyone have any tips on minimizing the stress this will cause on Fae & Iggy? the place that we will be moving into will be much bigger than our current place... i'm thinking that Fae & Iggy should be confined to a room for a little while before being allowed free run of the place....? hmm..... any ideas/tips/advice is very much welcome!

dumtempe, la dramo pri la loĝejo, pri kiu mi menciis en antaŭaj blogaĵoj, (espereble) nun finiĝas! post 3 semajnoj ni transloĝiĝos! antaŭe mi havis katojn, sed neniam antaŭe mi transloĝiĝis kune kun katoj.... ĉu iu havas iun ajn sugestojn/konsilojn pri kiel ne streĉigi la katojn dum transloĝiĝado? la nova loĝejo estas multe pli granda ol la nuna loĝejo.... mi pensas, ke Fae k Iggy estu fermitaj en unu ĉambro dum iom da tempo antaŭ ol ili povas esplori la tutan loĝejon...? hmm.... ĉiuj ideoj/sugestoj/konsiloj estas bonvenaj kaj aprezitaj!

anyway, possible lack of internet access in the coming weeks aside, i hope to post a lot more regularly in 2012! going to try my best...!

Devons have somewhat unique bellehs and some people think that they're "strange" or "ugly". i am here to tell you why i think Devon bellehs are BEAUTIFUL and AWESOME!

Devonoj havas iomete unikajn ventojn kaj iuj homoj opinias ke ili estas "strangaj" aŭ "malbelaj". nu, nun mi klarigos al vi, kial mi opinias, ke la ventroj de Devonoj estas BELAJ kaj BONEGAJ!

Devons have a lot of extra skin, especially on their bellehs. when they sit the bottom of their bellehs look kind of.... pouch-like? i find this super cute! :3

Devonoj havas multe da ekstra haŭto, precipe sur siaj ventoj. kiam ili sidas, la subaĵo de siaj ventoj aspektas iome kiel... kropo? mi opinias, ke tio estas beleta! :))

there's also extra skin around their chest. all of this extra skin serves a purpose and is not always "extra"!

....it all disappears! all of that "extra" skin makes for SUPER stretchiness and SUPER agility! of course, all cats are Masters of streching and agility, but i think Devons are particularly well suited for it. i've said it before and i'll say it again, Devons are the Greyhounds of the Catworld!

thoughts on kibble / pensoj pri manĝaĵo

disclaimer: the following is a long spiel regarding my own opinion on things. please don't be offended by it if you don't agree and please do feel free to share your own opinion, even if contradictory to mine.

averto: la sekva teksto estas longa parolo pri mia propra opinio. bonvolu ne ofendiĝi se vi ne konsentas al ĝi. fakte, bonvolu diri al mi vian opinion eĉ se ĝi estas mala je la mia.

i've been thinking. why do people feed their pets kibble?

kibble is basically astronaut food. seriously, think about it. what is astronaut food? scientifically formulated "food" that is designed to have "everything" you need and pretty much nothing else. it's extremely processed, dry and is made to taste like stuff that hardly resembles what it orignally may have been. what is kibble? the same thing.

to me, feeding your pets kibble is like feeding your children (or yourself) astronaut food. all the time. seriously. would YOU want to live off little pellets that have "everything" you need? would you feed your children that? so why do people feed their beloved four-legged friends that???

because it's "easier" on the wallet? more convenient? because your vet recommended it? in case you didn't know, vets get paid to recommend it and vets are NOT dietitians or nutritionists any more than general practitioners are.

think about it. please.

i'm seriously thinking about making a page on this blog dedicated to raw food for cats and i think i will use the above as the openning to it. i am no expert when it comes to diets or nutrition for cats, of course. the page would just be a place for me to voice my opinions, show how/what i feed my cats and provide links to further information on the topic. it might take me a while to compile everything i'd need for such a page, but i think i'll try.

lastatempe mi pensadas. kial homoj donadas al siaj dormbestoj sekan manĝaĵon?

seka manĝaĵo por bestoj estas kvazaŭ manĝaĵo por kosomonaŭtoj. serioze, pensu pri tio. kio estas manĝaĵo por kosmonaŭtoj? "manĝaĵo" scienco-bazita por enhavi "ĉion", kiun oni bezonas kaj apenaŭ ion ajn alian. ĝi estas multege procedita,sekigita kaj estas dizajnita por gusti simila al la manĝaĵo de kiu ĝi eble devenis sed al kiu ĝi tute ne plu vere rilatas. kio estas seka manĝaĵo por bestoj? la sama aĵo.

miaopinie, donadi al la dormbestoj sekan manĝaĵon estas kvazaŭ donadi al la geinfanoj (aŭ al vi mem) manĝaĵon por kosmonaŭtoj. notu la -ad-n. serioze. ĉu VI volus manĝi ĉiutage malgrandajn sekajn bulojn, kiuj enhavas "ĉion", kiun vi bezonas? ĉu vi donus al la infanoj tion? kial do homoj donadas tion al siaj amataj kvar-piedaj amikoj???

ĉu ĉar tio estas "pli facila"? aŭ pli oportuna? ĉu ĉar la bestkuracisto rekomendis ĝin? parenteze, se i ne jam scias, bestkuracistoj gajnas monon por rekomendi ĝin kaj ili NE estas spertuloj pri nutraĵo same kiel ĝeneralaj doktoroj ne estas.

pensu pri tio, mi petas.

mi serioze pensadas pri fari paĝeton en ĉi tiu blogo pri kurda manĝaĵo por katoj kaj mi pensas, ke mi uzos la supran tekston kiel la komencaĵo. kompreneble, mi ne estas spertulo pri nutraĵo por katoj. la paĝeto simple estus ejo, kie mi povus disdoni miajn opiniojn, montri kiel/kion mi donas al miaj katoj kaj disponigi ligliojn al pluaj informoj pri la afero. eble mi bezonos multe da tempo por kompili ĉion, kio estas necesa por tia paĝeto, sed mi pensas, ke mi provos tion fari.

i don't have photos of Fae or Iggy as kittens, sadly. i stumbled upon these photos on Flickr months ago and was amazed at how much the kitten resembled Fae. :) i wonder what Fae and Iggy were like as kittens.... no doubt they were little terrors! i find it hard to even imagine them as kittens because they're STILL very kitten like now, so imagine how much worse more of a handful they would have been back then!

bedaŭrinde mi he havas fotojn pri aŭ Fae aŭ Iggy de kiam ili estis katidoj. antaŭ kelkaj monatoj mi hazarde trovis ĉi tiujn fotojn ĉe Flickr kaj mi miris pri kiel simila la katido estas al Fae. :) mi scivolas, kiel estis Fae kaj Iggy kiam ili estis katidoj.... sendube ili estis teruraj! estas malfacile por mi imagi ilin kiel katidoj ĉar ili ANKORAŬ nun kondutas kvazaŭ ili estas katidoj, do imagu kiom multoble pli malbona malfacile prizogeblaj ili devis esti tiam!

hmmm.... maybe Iggy looked like this as a kitten. ;)

home sweet home / la ĝojo de hejmo

upon returning to Brisbane on July 22nd we went (on very little sleep!) to go pick up the cats. to our relief, they were fine and very glad to see us. silly me was worried that they may have started to forget us or that they'd be really mad at us! but no, we were immediately greeted with loud purrs and lots of love. :) according to the people at the cattery, they settled in quickly and had been fine the whole time.

once we got back home it was almost as if they'd never left. while we humans tried to nap, Fae & Iggy ran around like lunatics. maybe it was the excitement of being home? once we gave up sleeping we gave them both baths as they were both absolutely filthy. Iggy handled his first bath (with us) very well. :)

kiam mi revenis hejme estis subite kvazaŭ ili neniam foriris. dum ni homoj provadis dormeti, Fae k Iggy kuradaĉis tra la tuta apartamento kvazaŭ frenezuloj. eble pro la ekscitiĝo de reveni hejme? kiam ni rezignis niajn dormetojn, ni banis ilin ĉar ili ambaŭ estis terurege malpuregaj. Iggy kondutis tre bone dum lia unua bano (kun ni). :)

wanting to go outside / deziras ekstereniri

i've noticed some changes in them since they've been back. for one, they have a new found love of being outside, especially Iggy. i feel bad that all we have is a balcony here since they obviously loved the outdoor enclosure/garden. :( also, their fights have become a lot rougher. don't get me wrong, they're still not out to hurt each other, but if looks could kill they'd have killed each other by now. also, Iggy has become a pro at bodyslamming poor Fae! BUT at the same time they are still very affectionate towards each other and Iggy has even started to reciprocate Fae's cleaning! :D

mi rimarkis kelkajn ŝanĝojn en ili ekde kiam ili revenis hejme. ekzemple, ili nun havas novan pli grandan amon pri esti ekstere, precipe Iggy. mi ege malĝojas, ke ĉe nia apartamento estas nur balkono ĉar evidente ili tute amis la fermigitan ĝardenon. :( plue, iliaj bataloj fariĝis multe pli malmildaj. bv ne miskompreni min, ili ankoraŭ ne deziras dolorigi unu la alian, sed se mienoj povus mortigi ion, ili jam delonge mortigus unu la alian. kaj verŝajne Iggy fariĝis spertulo pri venki kompatindan Fae-n! SED samtempe ili ankoraŭ estas tre amikema al unu la alia kaj nun Iggy eĉ reciproke purigas Fae-n! :D

last but not least, after the initial "OMG YAY I'M HOME!!", Fae acted rather strangely which made us worry about her. she lacked her usual enthusiasm about food-- something that's strikingly noticeable as she usually has so much of it-- and she was acting rather sluggish and lethargic. even though i transitioned them back to a raw diet slowly, when given food of any kind she often barely ate without lots of encouragement. much of her first week back she spent sleeping and wouldn't even play with her favorite balls. :/ it should also be noted that she gained weight while away and had a sore on her neck where she probably scratched herself raw from anxiety. it took a week+ for the Fae that we know and love to return to her normal energetic, food-loving self, but now she's back and hopefully here to stay!

kaj ankoraŭ unu ekzemplo: post la komenca "HMD MI ESTAS HEJME JEJ!!", Fae kondutis iom strange kaj ni ege zorgis pri ŝi. mankis al ŝi ŝia kutima "fajro" (entuziasmo) pri manĝaĵo-- kiu estis ege rimarkenda ĉar kutime ŝi havas tiel multe da ĝi-- kaj ŝi ŝajnis tute senenergia kaj letargia. malgraŭ tio, ke mi tre malrapide ŝanĝis ilian manĝaĵon ree al kruda manĝaĵo, ofte ŝi preskaŭ nenion manĝis krom se ni multe kuraĝigis ŝin. dum la plejparto de ŝia unua semajno hejme ŝi dormadis kaj eĉ ne volis ludi per ŝiaj plej ŝatataj pilkoj. :/ plue mi ankaŭ diru, ke ŝi plipeziĝis dum ŝia restado ĉe la kat-hotelo kaj sur ŝia kolo estis vundo, kie ŝi verŝajne tro ofte/multe sin gratadis pro anksio. bezonis pli ol unu semajno por ke Fae refariĝi energia kaj manĝegema kiel kutime, sed nun ŝi denove fartas bone kaj espereble ĉiam estos tiel!

Americana Kitty

happy belated 4th of July to all the Americans out there! i hope you all enjoyed it. :) it's really hard to celebrate the 4th abroad... :( but with it being the 4th (or rather 5th) of July and all, i figured i'd post about Americana Kitty!

feliĉan malfruan 4an de julio al ĉiuj usonanoj! mi esperas, ke vi ĝuis ĝin. :) estas tre malfacile festi la tagon eksterlande... :( sed mi decidis, ke mi blogos pri "Americana Kitty" ("Usoneca Katĉjo") okaze de la 4a (aŭ pli ĝuste 5a) de julio!

Americana Kitty is a plushie that i made on the same day that i made Iggy's coat. more details about the making of AK can be found at my livejournal.

Americana Kitty estas pupo, kiun mi faris samtage kiel la mantelo de Iggy. plu da informo pri la farado de AK troviĝas ĉe mia livejournal.

Iggy likes to pretend that he's all "buddy buddy" with AK, but then he's all claws and teeth! i keep trying to tell him that AK is not a toy, but nooooooo...... everything is a toy to Iggy.

plaĉas al Iggy ŝajnigi, ke li estas la plej bona amiko de AK, sed post tio li subite mordadas kaj gratadas! mi provadas klarigi al Iggy, ke AK ne estas ludilo, sed neeeeeeeeee...... al Iggy ĉio estas ludilo.

Fae is generally (but not always) nicer to AK. she even let AK feel her fur. :) if you ask me, though, i think AK might have been a little jealous.... maybe i should have given AK a nice, soft coat. :p

ĝenerale (sed ne ĉiam) Fae estas pli afabla al AK. ŝi eĉ permesis, ke AK palpi ŝian felon. :) sed mi opinias, ke eble AK estis iome ĵaluza.... eble estus pli bone, se mi uzis molan felon por fari AK. :p

now i'm considering trying to make a toy or two for them. :) nothing fancy, maybe felt mice or something.... i also have a coat planned for Fae, but alas! so much to make, so little time!

some cats love string. some cats love catnip. some cats love socks. Fae? Fae loves balls. LOVES them. so whenever we're out and we happen to see a new kind of ball that Fae might like we buy it. as you can see, she has quite the collection.

iuj katoj fadenon amas. iuj katoj katherbon amas. iuj katoj strumpetojn amas. kaj Fae? Fae pilkojn amas. ilin ŝi AMEGAS. do, kiam ajn ni hazarde trovas novan specon de pilko ĉe vendejo, kiun eble plaĉos al Fae, ni ĝin aĉetas. kiel vi povas vidi supre, Fae havas iomete grandan kolekton.

Fae is a very frisky, high-energy cat. when she plays with her favorite balls she puts ALL of her energy into it, which can lead to some pretty amazing and painful situations.

Fae estas ege energia kaj ludema kato. kiam ŝi ludas per siaj plej ŝatataj pilkoj, ŝi uzas la TUTON de sia energio. tio igas, ke foje mirindegaj kaj dolorigaj situacioj okazas.

for example, Fae will run around with all her might like a crazed kitten with her focus completely on her ball and not on where her ball is going. she sometimes ends up running/sliding head-first into things or, for example, she'll jump to catch a ball without noticing that there's an obstacle in her way.

ekzemple, Fae kuras ĉirkaŭ la apartamento kvazaŭ freneza katido. dume, ŝia atento estas tute enfokusigita je la pilko kaj ŝi ne atentas kien la pilko iras. tial ŝi foje kurante batas la kapon sur io aŭ (ekzemple) ŝi saltas por kapti pilkon sen atento pri obstakloj.

on the other hand, Fae is also very smart & talented. in mid-chase she'll hit the ball in completely opposite directions from where the ball otherwise would have went in order to make the chase funner/more challenging. some of the stunts that she does with her balls are amazing! there's nothing like seeing a cat fly through the air after a ball with its limbs outstretched like a flying squirrel aimed at a tree branch. :P

aliaflanke, Fae ankaŭ estas tre spirta kaj lerta. mezo de postkuradante pilkon ŝi bataads la pilkon al tute malsama direkto por fari la postkuradon pli amuza/malfacila. kelkaj da la akrobataĵoj, kiujn ŝi faras ludante per pilkoj estas mirindegaj! nenio estas pli mojosa ol rigardi katon, kiu flugas tra la aero celante pilkon kun siaj membroj elstreĉataj kvazaŭ flubsciuro, kiu celas branĉon. :P

while it's great that Fae enjoys her balls, we do worry about her sometimes. as i said before, she is a very frisky, high-energy cat and while she can and does play alone with her balls when we aren't available to play with her, sometimes she gets so bored. :( i don't want to over humanize Fae, but sometimes she even seems forlorn/lonely. what will she do when i eventually no longer work from home and she's left alone at home regularly?

sorry for the delayed update! Fae went to the vet on wednesday. the visit went alright, although Fae didn't handle it nearly as well as her previous visits due to having to be examined a lot more thoroughly this time. she didn't much care for being "manhandled". :P

pardonon pro la malrapida novaĵo! merkrede Fae vizitis la bestkuraciston. la vizito glate iris malgraŭ tio, ke por Fae ĝi ne tiel glate iris kiel pasintaj vizitoj. ĉi-foje la bestkuracisto devis ekzameni ŝin multoble pli ol antaŭe kaj ne plaĉis al Fae la "manipulado". :P

while the vet visit went well, it really only confirmed suspicions that i already had. the vet confirmed that Fae has an allergy, but to what is still unknown. a flea allergy, which is supposedly the most common allergy in cats, was immediately ruled out narrowing the possibilities down to a food allergy or an environmental allergy... which isn't really narrowing it down much at all.

nu, la vizito glate iris, tamen ĝi simple jesigis supozojn, kiujn mi jam havis. la bestkuracisto konfirmis, ke Fae ja havas alergion, sed kian alergion oni ankoraŭ ne scias. la plej ofta alergio por katoj, alergio pro puloj, estis tuj neigita, do restas ankoraŭ du specoj de alergioj: alergio pro manĝaĵo kaj alergio pro ĉirkaŭaĵoj.... do, efektive restas MULTE da eblecoj.

the vet highly suggested that we put Fae on a trial diet of one "novelty" protein (meat) for 8 weeks, gradually reintroducing other food after that... the major problem that we have with this is that novelty meat like duck, rabbit, quail etc aren't easily found here and thus are fairly expensive. i imagine that it would be VERY costly to feed Fae nothing but this for 8 weeks. furthermore, while the vet said that such a limited diet would be alright temporarily, i still wouldn't be entirely comfortable with it...

speaking of novelty meat, just before the vet visit we happened to buy some organic (yay!) duck breast for Fae. i really wanted to add a little more variety to Fae's diet and she had never had duck before. she loves it! but that duck cost $24 AUD/$26 USD for only 400g/14oz! crazy. duck will definitely STAY a novelty meat.

anyway, back to the vet. i told the vet my concern about costs and she recommended trying goat meat as she had heard that it is really cheap. she also mentioned that cats seem to have a love/hate relationship with it. i have never seen goat before, so...

all hope is not lost, however. me and the other human now suspect that her allergy may be from her treats rather than her food as the timing of her scratching episodes (of which this isn't the first, this is just the first i've mentioned it here) seems similar to when we were giving her this particular treat. we'll be getting new treats for her this weekend and will be watching her closely to see if she improves.

this weekend's Cat Spectacular cat show was really cool. :)) we so many different breeds of cats and also a few "housecats", all of whom were beautiful. there were several Devon Rexes in the show and for a moment i was really tempted to ask the Devon breeders if they recognized Fae... maybe she'd come from one of their catteries? but no, that would have been a bad thing to do and the answer doesn't really matter anyway. the other human thought that one of the Devons looked a lot like Fae, though.

la ĉi-semajna kat-ekspozicio "Cat Spectacular" estis mojosega. :)) ni vidis diversajn rasojn de katoj kaj ankaŭ kelkajn "dom-katojn" (miks-rasajn katojn). ĉiuj katoj estis belegaj. kelkaj DevonReksoj partoprenis la ekspozicion kaj momente mi deziris demandi al la posedantoj de la DevonReksoj, ĉu ili konas Fae.... eble ŝi naskiĝis ĉe unu de iliaj katoj? sed ne, tio estus terura demando kaj la respondo eĉ ne estas tre grava. tamen, la alia homo opiniis, ke unu el la DevonReksoj aspektis simila al Fae.

we left the cat show empty handed having not bought anything for ourselves or for Fae, but Fae already has some other new toys anyway and i have lots of photos to remember the experience by. here are a few of my favs. :)

anyway, thanks to everyone who replied to my last post. i really really hope that Thurston finds his perfect forever home, but i've decided that Fae probably would be glad to be an only cat so we should keep it that way. :)

changing the topic, i'm sorry to say that i won't be able to post much or visit other blogs this week. :( we accidentally went over our bandwidth limit and so our internet has been slowed to a crawl.... it takes forever to load sites/images/etc. :/ the internet should be back to normal next weekend, but until then sorry for the lack of comments and updates. :(

is one a lonely number? / ĉu unu estas soleca nombro?

the real question is "is one a lonely number for Fae?" sometimes she seems glad to be the only cat, thriving under the attention that she gets. other times she seems kind of distant and lonely. she has freaked out on several occasions upon encountering another cat which suggests that she doesn't like other cats, but there's also the fact that those occasions were brief encounters with other cats that she had had no introduction to/time to get use to. maybe if she were introduced very very slowly to another cat her reaction would be different....? but then again it might not. oh Fae, i wish i could read your mind. :'(

la vera demando estas "ĉu unu estas soleca nombro por Fae?" foje ŝi ŝajnas feliĉa pri esti sola kato. ŝi verŝajne amegas okupi sole la atenton de ni. tamen aliafoje ŝi verŝajne malfeliĉas kaj sentas sin soleca. plurfoje ŝi freneziĝis kiam ŝi renkontis alian katon kaj tio sugestas, ke aliaj katoj ne plaĉas al ŝi. tamen estas fakto, ke tiuj renkontiĝoj estis hazardaj kaj mallongaj kaj do ŝi havis neniom da tempo por alkutimiĝi al la alia kato. se alia kato estis ĝuste prezentita al ŝi eeege eeege malrapide, eble ŝi ne freneziĝus....? sed eble ŝi ankoraŭ freneziĝus. ho Fae, se mi povus scii viajn pensojn..... :'(

either way, our lease says we can have ONE cat. if we wanted to have a second we would have to ask the property manager who would then ask the owner of the apartment and who knows what they'd say..... actually, they'd probably say no. unlike in America, in Australia (or atleast in Brisbane) the real estate market is not pet friendly. it's really hard to find a place that will let you have a cat-- we were really lucky to find and get the place that we have. i worry that asking about a second cat might be pushing our luck...

If you're wanting an indoor cat that will bring plenty of joy for many years to come, one that will inhale all the love you can bestow upon him, then please consider a mature cat like Thurston.

actually, Thurston is the cat that i was originally looking to adopt before i found out about Fae. at the time he was so sick that they weren't sure he'd ever go up for adoption, but now he's been up for adoption for 2.5 months. :( i really hope he finds a good home.... too bad it can't be with us...

fakte, Thurston estas la kato, kiun mi unue volis adopti, antaŭ ol mi eksciis pri Fae. tiam li estis tiel malsana, ke oni ne certis pri ĉu li fariĝos adoptebla. antaŭ 2.5 monatojn li fariĝis adoptebla, sed li ankoraŭ ne estis adoptita. :( mi tutkore esperas, ke li estos adoptita al bona hejmo.... estas tre bedaŭrinde, ke tiu bona homo ne povas esti la nia....

cat training? / kat-trejnado?

today i went to a brief dog training session at the RSPCA and when i got home i thought "why not try that with Fae?" so i started trying to teach Fae to sit on command and made a quick video of it. we got some practice in before i started recording but still i'm really surprised at how well she's doing already, especially considering how she is around treats. :)

hodiaŭ mi partoprenis mallongan lecionon pri trejnado por hundoj ĉe la RSPCA kaj kiam mi hejmenvenis mi pensis "kial ne provu tion kun Fae?"do mi ekprovis instrui al Fae sidiĝi laŭ ordono kaj haste filmis ĝin. ni ekzerciĝis iom antaŭ ol mi komencis filmi, sed mi ankoraŭ tre surpriziĝis pri kiel bone ŝi jam lernas, precipe ĉar ŝi kutime frenezetiĝas pri manĝaĵo. :)

relaxing Monday / trankviliĝa lundo

it was nice spending time out on the balcony with Fae today. for some reason she wanted to go outside a lot more than usual...... me and the other human have been toying around with the idea of getting Fae an outdoor enclosure or a stroller. if we got her an enclosure it would have to be small because our balcony isn't very wide and even a small one would be expensive. at the moment we're leaning more towards getting a stroller, but really we're still just toying around with the idea. has anyone else had good experiences with enclosures/strollers? :)

hodiaŭ estis tre agrable forpasi iom da tempo kun Fae sur la balkono. iale ŝi volis iri eksteren pli ofte kaj longe ol kutime....... mi kaj la alia homo pensetas pri aĉeti eksteran kat-ludejon aŭ katĉaron (simile ol beboĉaro). se ni aĉetus ludejon, ĝi devus esti mallarĝa ĉar la balkono estas mallarĝa kaj eĉ mallarĝa ludejo estus multkosta. nuntempe pli plaĉas al ni katĉaro ol ekstera ludejo, sed ni ankoraŭ nur pensETas pri aĉeti tiujn aĵojn. ĉu iuj el vi havas sperton kun eksteraj kat-ludejoj/katoĉaroj? :)
