itchy moving / juka transloĝiĝado

it's been a while since i've updated this blog properly, sorry AGAIN! things were really up and down for a while, but things seem to be improving now. i want to start 2012 off on the right foot!

jam pasis iom da tempo ĝis kiam mi ĝuste ĝisdatigis ĉi tiun blogon, pardonon DENOVE! la pasintajn kelkajn semajnojn mi estis iom malfeliĉa pro diversaj aferoj, sed nun tiuj aferoj verŝajne pliboniĝas iom post iom. mi volas komenci la novan jaron bone!

for the past couple of weeks (month?) Iggy has gotten bumps all over his head & neck and in other places around his body. he's been scratching and licking himself a lot.... at first i thought the bumps were just from his playfights with Fae, but it soon became apparent that they're a reaction to something. you may remember that Iggy was surrendered by his previous owner due to a supposed allergy to another cat... well i'm certain that this is that same "allergy", but it's obviously not to another cat and i can't think of any foodstuff that could have triggered it.... we now think it might be an environmental allergy or seasonal skin condition. on Tuesday we gave both Iggy & Fae a bath in special shampoo that's suppose to sooth itchy/irritated skin and it seems to have helped a lot, although only temporarily. perhaps we will have to give Iggy a bath on a weekly basis in the summer?

meanwhile, the real estate drama that i've mentioned in previous posts has (hopefully) come to a conclusion! in 3 weeks we will be moving! while i've had cats in the past, i have no experience moving house with cats... does anyone have any tips on minimizing the stress this will cause on Fae & Iggy? the place that we will be moving into will be much bigger than our current place... i'm thinking that Fae & Iggy should be confined to a room for a little while before being allowed free run of the place....? hmm..... any ideas/tips/advice is very much welcome!

dumtempe, la dramo pri la loĝejo, pri kiu mi menciis en antaŭaj blogaĵoj, (espereble) nun finiĝas! post 3 semajnoj ni transloĝiĝos! antaŭe mi havis katojn, sed neniam antaŭe mi transloĝiĝis kune kun katoj.... ĉu iu havas iun ajn sugestojn/konsilojn pri kiel ne streĉigi la katojn dum transloĝiĝado? la nova loĝejo estas multe pli granda ol la nuna loĝejo.... mi pensas, ke Fae k Iggy estu fermitaj en unu ĉambro dum iom da tempo antaŭ ol ili povas esplori la tutan loĝejon...? hmm.... ĉiuj ideoj/sugestoj/konsiloj estas bonvenaj kaj aprezitaj!

anyway, possible lack of internet access in the coming weeks aside, i hope to post a lot more regularly in 2012! going to try my best...!

ĉiuokaze, krom la ebla manko de interreto dum transloĝiĝado, mi intencas ĝisdatigi la blogon multe pli ofte en 2012! mi klopodos...!

  1. Are you sure the allergy isn't to a protein source or to a grain? Wait, you feed raw, right? So forget that, unless we're thinking of someone else.

Some kitties go for steroid shots every now and again to stop the itching, though of course you want to be careful with that. Not sure what else to suggest, we guess you'd have to have him tested for allergies, if that can be done.

Good luck with the move--we've not had to move so we haven't any advice. Huffle and her family just moved, though, and Chey is moving soon, or has just moved...Quite a few around the CB have recently done so, you could always post the question on the main CB page.

We want to wish you a wonderful 2012, with much laughter, love and Light. We'll still be posting, but the mom can't keep up with the 430+ blogs she follows, even using Google Reader. Meaning she can't comment every day anymore, it's exhausting her and she wants to do other things in her non-work time. So we'll still be around and reading, please don't be offended if we can't comment on every post! :-)

  2. Ernie gets itchy a lot too...we thought it might be food related, but now think it is an environmental allergy. His isn't too bad, but when it gets really bad, he gets a shot from the v-e-t. We hope Iggy's itchy is helped by the baths.

As far as moving, the times our mom moved with cats, she would set up one room, like a bedroom, first in the new place and then put the cats in there and confine them until they felt more comfortable. Every cat is different, some will be fine right away, some will take a little time getting used to the new surroundings. We hope all goes well with your move!

  3. Kara, mi per tiu ĉi vojo ankaŭ bondeziras prosperon, kaj ĉion la plej bono en via vivo.
Bone, ke viaj aferoj pliboniĝas. Zorgi pri bestojn bela eco. Mi ankaŭ posedas du virkatojn, sed ili estas iomete "kamparanoj", krome 3 hundojn.

  4. Moving is very stressful to me! Whenever we do it, we get a hotel room and we cats stay there out of the way of movers and boxes and confusion. Once the new house is settled down, we move back in!
