one advantage of having a cat enclosure on a balcony that Iggy & Fae now enjoy is up-close bird watching. Queensland kitties are really spoiled in this regard because there are a MILLION different singing/noisy birds around here-- even native parrots that you only see in petstores elsewhere! and all of them are outside our windows at some point or another.
below is a short video of this morning's birdwatching.

Kvinslandaj katoj estas ege bonŝancaj rilate al tio ĉar ĉi tie estas MIL MILOJ da diversaj kantantaj/bruemaj bridoj-- eĉ indiĝenaj papagoj, kiujn oni ne vidas krom ĉe dombest-vendejoj eksterlande! kaj ĉiuj el tiuj birdoj videblas ekster niaj fenestroj de tempo al tempo.

note: did you notice Iggy's neck? Fae did that! AGAIN! she gets very zealous while (play)fighting with Iggy and poor Iggy hardly has any fur on his neck/head so Fae's teeth and claws go straight into his skin. :( i wonder how Sphynxes cope with battle wounds...

it's huge! we refer to it as their "palace". as you may have noticed, their "castle" is now out in the cat enclosure. i was against getting them something so expensive and fancy since we just bought the enclosure, but the other human insisted that we should. they get spoiled by both of us humans!

ĝi estas giganta! ni nomas ĝin ilia "palaco". eble vi jam ĉi tion rimarkis, sed ilia "kastelo" nun troviĝas en la kat-fermitejo. mi ne volas aĉeti ion tiel multekosta kaj pompa ĉar ni ĵus aĉetis la fermitejon, sed la alia homo insistis, ke ni ĝin aĉetu. ambaŭ ni homoj trodorlotegadas ilin!

about 90% of the time Fae, the instigator, starts the fight, but this early morning fight was started by Iggy. Iggy has the unfair advantage of being bigger and more agile than Fae, but Fae still manages to kick Iggy's a** sometimes! today, however, Fae was the first to bow out. +1 win for Iggy.

ĉirkaŭ 90% de la tempo Fae, la instigulo, okazigas batalon, sed Iggy okazigis ĉi tiun frumatenan batalon. Iggy havas maljustajn advantaĝojn: li estas pli granda kaj pli facilpieda ol Fae. tamen malgraŭ tio, kelkfoje Fae tute venkas lin! tamen, hodiaŭ Fae kapitulacis. +1 venko por Iggy.

p.s.: aren't Aussie birdies noisy/lovely? / Aŭstraliaj birdoj estas bruaj/amindaj, ĉu ne?

fighting / batalado

as you've seen in previous posts, Fae and Iggy have been getting along amazingly well. they both seem to really like each other and Fae seems to be particularly fond of Iggy. (CRUSH???) regardless of that, they do fight. usually it's just a play fight but sometimes play fights turn a bit more serious. usually it's Fae who is the first to take things too far and sometimes (more often than not) she's the one that starts a fight. i can't for the life of my figure out why. Iggy goes around grumbling & yowling a lot (i swear he is the LOUDEST cat i have EVER met), maybe he says something insulting to/about her?? lmao

kiel vi vidis en la antaŭaj blogaĵoj, Fae kaj Iggy tute kaj mirinde amikiĝis. ŝajnas al mi, ke ili ege ŝatas unu la alian kaj precipe Fae ŝategas Iggy (ĉu AMO???) malgraŭ tio, ili ankoraŭ batalas unu la alian. kutime la batalo estas nur ludo, sed foje la ludo fariĝas tro serioza. kutime Fae estas la unua fariĝi tro serioza kaj foje (pli ofte jes ol ne) ŝi komencas la batalon. la kialon mi tute ne komprenas. tre ofte Iggy grumblante kaj kriante iras tra la apartamento (li estas la PLEJ laŭta kato mi IAM renkontis), eble li diras insultojn al/pri ŝi?? mdr

anyway, here's a video of one of their favorite types of play fights: "Battle for the Tower". expect more and better fight photos/videos to come in the future.

from the start we knew that if we got another cat Fae may not be happy with it. when we first met her at the RSPCA shelter it was obvious that she wasn't getting along with her penmate. i tried to not read too much into that, however, as i see that all the time while volunteering at the RSPCA and know that that doesn't always last. then there was the incident with the neighbor's cat where Fae literally went ballistic. since then, however, Fae seemed to calm down some and so when Fae started acting lethargic we held out some hope that a second cat could work.

so far Fae has been taking things remarkably well. :) i think Fae's feelings come and go in stages/waves.

1. the pissed off stage: wants nothing to do with you.
2. the angry stage: still very mad but reluctantly near you.
3. the unhappy acceptance stage: not so mad anymore but still very unhappy.
4. the acceptance stage: starts to act more like normal; even becomes curious.
5. ????

during stage 1 if we sat by her she would go elsewhere. she didn't even make direct eye contact with you-- talk about being given "the cold shoulder"! stage 2 seemed to begin when she reluctantly wanted to be near us again but still shunned the attention that we gave her. during stages 1 and 2 Fae didn't purr at all, which was very strikingly noticeable because she usually purrs a lot! it wasn't until stage 3 that she started purring a little again when food was involved. she also started to play again but her already rough playing became markedly rougher! it was to the point where biting often hurt even though no blood was drawn. i guess she was acting out her mixed feelings about things... now we have entered stage 4 where she seems to have come to terms with Iggy's permanent presence in her apartment. she is still somewhat apprehensive about it, but she hisses only sometimes now and she only distances herself from us occasionally. her purring and tail wagging are almost back to normal, thank god! i'd missed them a lot. <3 i wonder if stage 5 will be "ok, i'm ready to deal with him now"..? or perhaps that's stage 6 or 10.

today we seem to have made a lot of progress! we had already been swapping their blankets and had been letting them smell each other on our clothes, but this morning they swapped places to an extent. Iggy got to go in our bedroom while Fae investigated the spare bedroom (her favorite room) that Iggy had been staying in. Fae didn't seem very put out by Iggy's smell being everywhere, although Iggy was a bit antsy, presumably due to obviously being in Fae's space. they also saw each other through a crack in the door that was bigger than ever. out of about 6 crack-in-the-door meetings there was only minor hissing twice. very encouraging. :) i'm thinking that maybe tomorrow we'll put Fae in the spare bedroom and let Iggy fully explore the apartment. then Fae will have to start facing up to his smell being everywhere without having to face Iggy himself.

this video was made earlier this week. it's not exciting, but it shows Fae chilling in one of her favorite spots. :)

the internet is back! and i'm backlogged with things to post about, the first of which is a video i made days ago of showing how i go about feeding Fae. it's not really that interesting to tell the truth, but i figured one more video about cats eating raw food couldn't hurt Youtube. plus when Fae eventually needs a babysitter the video can act as a tutorial! lol ;)

la interreto ree funkcias! kaj mi jam havas kelkajn aferojn, pri kiuj mi volas blogi. la unua afero estas filmeto, kiun mi filmis antaŭ kelkajn tagojn, pri kiel mi donas manĝaĵon al Fae. verdire ĝi ne estas tre interesa, sed mi pensas, ke ankoraŭ unu filmeto pri kruda manĝaĵo por katoj ne ĝenos Youtube-on. plue kiam iu homo devos zorgi pri Fae ĉar ni estas foraj, mi povos uzi la filmon kiel gvidilo! *ridas* ;)

that's all i'll post for tonight, but i also want to mention that this weekend is the "Cat Spectacular", a 6 ring 2 day cat show presented by the Queensland Feline Association. i'm really looking forward to going as it will be my first time going to a cat show! :D i'm really bummed about being broke because i'm sure there will be lots of awesome stuff for sale (better leave my credit card at home.....), but i'm sure i'll come back with literally thousands of photos. :) may take me a bit to get through them all....

nu, hodiaŭ mi ne blogos pri tio, sed mi ankaŭ volas mencii, ke ĉi semajnfine okazos la "Cat Spectatular", 2 taga ekspozicio pri katoj okazigita de la Kvinslanda Asocio pri Felisoj. mi ege antaŭĝojas la ekspozicion ĉar mi neniam antaŭe ĉeestis ekspozicion pri katoj! :D mi estas ege malĝoja pri havi neniom da mono, sed mi certe forlasos la ekspozicion kun milmiloj da fotoj. :) mi verŝajne bezonos iom da tempo por ilin ordigi....

cat training? / kat-trejnado?

today i went to a brief dog training session at the RSPCA and when i got home i thought "why not try that with Fae?" so i started trying to teach Fae to sit on command and made a quick video of it. we got some practice in before i started recording but still i'm really surprised at how well she's doing already, especially considering how she is around treats. :)

hodiaŭ mi partoprenis mallongan lecionon pri trejnado por hundoj ĉe la RSPCA kaj kiam mi hejmenvenis mi pensis "kial ne provu tion kun Fae?"do mi ekprovis instrui al Fae sidiĝi laŭ ordono kaj haste filmis ĝin. ni ekzerciĝis iom antaŭ ol mi komencis filmi, sed mi ankoraŭ tre surpriziĝis pri kiel bone ŝi jam lernas, precipe ĉar ŝi kutime frenezetiĝas pri manĝaĵo. :)

Fae's getting better and better at wearing her harness. she even lets me put it on without hassle and then patiently waits for me to take it off when she comes back in. :) yesterday she explored the balcony twice and then again two more times today. maybe we'll be able to take her to a park sooner than i thought!

Fae fariĝas pli kaj pli bona pri surhavi jungilaron. ŝi eĉ permesas al mi vesti ŝin per ĝi senplendante kaj ŝi pacience atendas ĝis mi malvestas ŝin poste. :) hieraŭ ŝi dufoje esploris la balkonon kaj denove hodiaŭ dufoje ŝi esploris. eble ni povos ŝin porti al parko pli baldaŭ ol mi unue pensis!
