wow.... Blogger has completely changed! i can't seem to keep up with anything anymore...

Fae is doing well. :) but she has put on a bit of weight! she's kinda sorta on a "diet" now. as the days are getting colder, she and Iggy seek out all the warmth they can get.

Fae bone fartas. :) sed ŝi iome pli peziĝis! nun ŝi iomete "dietas". lastatempe la tagoj pli kaj pli malvarmiĝas kaj ŝi kaj Iggy klopodas malkovri ĉiun ajn varmejon.

Iggy is doing alright except his skin allergy has been acting up again. :( he is back on cortisone and we are hopefully about to try out a food trial to completely eliminate the possibility of a food allergy. :/ otherwise he is his normal, ever-high-strung and anxious self.

Iggy bone fartas krom tio, ke lia haŭt-alergio revenis. :( li denove manĝas la kuracilon "cortisone" kaj espereble baldaŭ ni provos malkovri ĉu lia alergio vere ne rilatas al manĝaĵo per speciala dieto. :/ krom tio li estas ege anksia kaj energiplena kiel kutime.

sigh, i really need to redo/redesign life with Fae and post more. at least Blogger's new look should help me visit blogs more. :) i hope all of you out there are well! apologies for my/our silence.

thank you everyone for your advice, thoughts and well wishes! Iggy took the prescribed medicine for 5 days, as recommended, and now seems to be back to himself with no more blood in his urine. amazing. i still can't believe that this may have been stress-related, especially since the vet connected it with dry food which they never eat (although their treats are dry).... but either way, i'm just glad that Iggy seems to be ok. :) hopefully this wont happen again...!

Iggy The Sicky / Iggy La Malsanulo

this past Friday morning i woke up to find that Iggy had vomited on the floor downstairs. while cleaning it up i noticed that Iggy was acting strange; we kept going to the litter box literally every minute like clockwork. i followed him to the litter box a couple of times trying to get a glimpse of what was going on and saw that each time he urniated very small amounts of red urine. i also noticed that his unmentionable area was very wet and it was as if he couldn't hold his bladder... every time he sat somewhere he left small amounts of red urine. i immediately called the Cat Clinic and we brought him as soon as they had an opening. he ended up having to be left there so that they could do urine tests.

la pasintan vendredon mi vekiĝis kaj trovis, ke Iggy vomis sur la unua-etaĝan plankon. dum mi purigis la plankon, mi rimarkis, ke Iggy agis iom strange; kvazaŭ laŭ horoloĝo, li ripete iris al la necesejo ĉiuminute. mi sevis lin al la necesejo por rigardi kio okazas kaj vidis, ke ĉiufoje urinis tre malmulte da ruĝa urino. mi ankaŭ rimarkis, ke lia ne-menciebla-loko estis tre malseka kaj ŝajnis, ke li ne povis teni sian urinon en la kurpo ĉar kiam li sidiĝis, ĉiufoje restis malmulte da ruĝa urino. mi tuj telefonis al la Cat Clinic (kat-kuracejo) kaj tien ni portis lin kiel plej eble baldaŭ. fine ni devis lasi lin tie por ke ili povis ekzameni lian urinon.

several hours later that day we got a call to come pick him up. on the way it rained with the sun out in full force creating a beautiful double rainbow... a good sign for Iggy? Iggy had received a pain killer and seemed to be doing alright. the vet examination and urine tests ruled out that the possibility of infection or crystals in Iggy's urine. the fact that Iggy can still urinate normally suggests that there isn't a blockage, but there is still the possibility of bladder stones or something similar which would require an expensive ultrasound to determine. the vet said that it is very likely that Iggy may just have blood in his urine due to stress as this is supposedly very common among male cats (esp. those who eat dry food), but... what stress? nothing has changed in Iggy's environment, food, etc... eitherway, the vet's recommended course of action was to treat Iggy's inflamed bladder with anti-inflammatory medicine for the next week and see if he improves, which blood due to stress usually does. if he is still having problems after a week we will take him back for an ultrasound. in the meantime he would continue to have blood in his urine for a few days.

post pluraj horoj la kuracejo telefonis al ni por porti lin hejmen. laŭvoje estis pluvo malgraŭ tio, ke la suno forte brilis. pro tio, estis belega, duobla ĉielarko..... ĉu bona signo por Iggy? ili donis al Iggy kuracilon por plibonigi lian doloron kaj li ŝajnis farti bone. la fakto, ke Iggy ankoraŭ povis urini normale sugestis, ke ne estis ia baraĵo, sed ankoraŭ restas la ebleco por ŝtonoj en lia veziko aŭ io alia serioza malsano. por eltrovi ĉu estas vezikaj ŝtonoj ktp bezonas tre multekosta ultrasona ekzameno. la kat-kuracisto diris, ke eble Iggy havas  sangon en la urino pro streĉo ĉar verŝajne ofte okazas sango en la urino de virkatoj (precipe de tiuj, kiuj manĝas sekan manĝaĵon), kiuj estas streĉitaj, sed..... ĉu vere streĉo? lastatempe nenio ŝanĝis hejme, do vere ne estas io streĉiga.... ĉiuokaze, la kat-kuracisto rekomendis, ke ni unue traktu lian inflamigitan vezikon per anti-inflama kuracilo dum la sekvanta semajno kaj atente rigardu lian sanon. se post unu semajno li ne plibone fartas, tiam li havos ultrasonan ekzamenon. dumtempe, restos sango en lia urino dum kelkaj tagoj.

Iggy seems to be doing alright since then... he still goes to the litter box frequently, but not quite as frequently. he still has a lot of blood in his urine, but at least he seems to be going alright. he eats all of his food, although uncharacteristically slowly. this morning, however, he finished his breakfast but then threw it all up shortly after... i called the clinic and was advised to stop his medicine for 24hrs and monitor him. if all is well after that, start giving him the medicine again. i really hope he hasn't got bladder stones or anything serious, but it's hard to believe that this may have been caused by stress when he hasn't be stress lately and has handled even more stressful situations without this kind of problem. :( he is a very high-strung, anxious cat, though, so who knows... fingers crossed! i'll keep everyone updated on the situation.

ŝajnas, ke Iggy plibone fartas ekde tiam.... li ankoraŭ nekutime ofte iras al la necesejo, sed ne tiel ofte kiel antaŭe. ankoraŭ estas multe da sango en lia urino, sed almenaŭ li verŝajne povas urini senprobleme. li manĝas ĉiom da lia manĝaĵo, sed multoble pli malrapide ol kutime. tamen, ĉi-matene li vomis lian tutan matenmanĝaĵon  tre baldaŭ post li ĝin manĝis.... mi telefonis al la kat-kuracejo kaj ili diris, ke mi ne donu la kuracilon al li dum la sekvanta 24 horoj kaj atente rigardu lin. se post 24 horoj li plibone fartas, tiam mi ree komenci doni al li la kuracilon. mi kore esperas, ke li ne havas gravan malsanon, sed estas malfacile por mi kredi, ke la kial de la sango estas streĉo. kiel mi jam diris, estis nenion streĉiga lastatempe kaj kiam JA estis io streĉiga (ekzemple, transloĝiĝado) li traktis la situacion sen la nuna problemo. :( sed ja.... li ja estas tre nervozema kaj anksiema kato, do..... bv deziri al li bonŝancon! mi ĝisdatigos la blogon pri la situacio.

on Monday July 11th we drove Fae and Iggy to the Cat's Meow in preparation for our trip to Singapore. the drive took around 45mins and on the way Iggy got really nervous. so nervous that he threw up his breakfast & even pooed a little in his carrier. :(( Fae was very nervous too, but Iggy a lot more so, understandably. we had only gotten him a month before and that required an agonizing (for Iggy) 2 hour drive....

once we got Iggy cleaned up and checked them in, things looked up... kind of. the suite was very nice with a heated room including a tunnel, bed, litter trays and a little box thing for them to hide in. the attached enclosed garden was an immediate fav.

upon letting Fae out of her carrier all of her nervousness seemed to turn to anger. she was hissing and spitting and growling all over the place, even at Iggy. :/ the owner of the cattery had several of her cats there wandering around freely who also felt Fae's fury, although they handled it with ease as they were probably used to it.

Iggy was smart and immediately went up onto a high perch in the garden and stayed out of Fae's way. there was a talkative Burmese(?) in the garden suite across the hall from theirs whom Iggy seemed to take a liking to.

we stayed with them for about 30 minutes trying to help them both calm down and settle in. Iggy was shivering (for various reasons knowing Iggy), so we gave him lots of love & attention + put one of the blankets that we'd brought with us on him since he loves them.

we tried to comfort Fae too, but that was hard to do with very limited success. at least she had lots to distract her, like the horses wandering in the fields outside, birds, plants etc, but then she found the food dish....... they were given a constant supply of "premium" dry food and Fae turned to stuffing her face in it right away, as to be expected of a gluttonous Devon Rex. i swear "gluttony" should be every Devon's middle name. can you imagine how much weight she put on???

sadly, we had to leave the still nervous Fae & Iggy behind. :( we requested access to the webcam that was installed into their room, but sadly it wasn't working at the time. we worried about them during the entire trip, but was glad that they were in a nice place. tomorrow i'll post photos from when they finally came back home!

thanks for all of the nice comments, everyone. :) things are going well in the Apartment Of Fae! so well that i've caught Fae cleaning Iggy on more than one occasion. when she did it yesterday Iggy moved away (how rude!) but today he let her! :D GO FAE! she also seems to be trying to get up the courage to sleep next to him but hasn't quite gotten that far yet.

JEJ FAE! ankaŭ ŝajnas al mi, ke ŝi provas kuraĝiĝi por dormi apud li, sed ŝi ankoraŭ ne sukcesis.

Iggy's first vet visit went better than expected yesterday. at first he panicked a bit in the carrier but not as bad as he panicked the day we brought him home. once we got there he handled being seen by the vet very well! he didn't even flinch while getting his temperature taken. :) the vet said he was in good health and even his skin was great! she was skeptical about him having an allergy to other cats, that his allergy was probably triggered by something else. we will have to keep a very close eye on him. she also said it was best to not treat him for the cat flu yet as his symptoms are still minor. hopefully his immune system can fight it off on its own and get stronger from it. we'll be taking him back to the vet at the end of the month for his second round of vaccinations.

hieraŭ la unua vizito al bestkuracejo por Iggy iras pli bone ol ni antaŭpensis. unue li iome panikis en la bestportilo, sed ne tiel multe kiel kiam ni unue hejmen portis lin. kiam ni alvenis li kondukis tute bone kun la bestkuracisto! li eĉ ne movis kiam la bestkuracisto lian temperaturon kontrolis. :) la bestkuracisto diris, ke li estas bonsana kaj eĉ lia haŭto estas bonega! ŝi tute ne kredas, ke li vere havas alergion kontraŭ aliaj katoj. ŝi opinias, ke lia alergio estas kontraŭ ion alian kaj ni devos atente rigardi lin. ŝi ankaŭ diris, ke estus plej bone ne doni al li medikamenton ĉar liaj nunaj simptomoj estas ankoraŭ ne tre gravaj kaj espereble lia korpo mem povos sukcese batali la malsanon kaj pro tio fariĝos pli forta kontraŭ la malsano. ni denove portos lin beskuracejen je la fino de la monato por ricevi duan aron da vakcinado.

today Iggy & Fae spent the day sleeping in blankets around the heater and with good reason! it's been the coldest day on record since 2000! brrrr..... i wish i could have stayed home and slept it off. ;( i'm really enjoying having two cats again. having just Fae was awesome, don't get me wrong, but there's something i've missed about having two cats. it's really nice to have two again. :)

i had a post almost all typed up and ready to go when suddenly (because the other human suddenly let Fae out of a room) Fae and Iggy did something that made that post no longer worth posting!

i don't have any good photos because the suddenness of it and i had to keep a close eye on them, but they played with a ball together and ate treats together! it was short, but oh so sweet! i'm so happy that all of the other stuff i was going to post about can wait!

introducing / mi prezentas IGGY!

NOTU: ĉar ĉi tiu blogaĵo estas iom longa (pardonon!), mi  malkunigis la anglan kaj Esperanton por ke ĝi estu pli facile legebla. Esperanto sekvas la anglan.

introducing Iggy! a 1year & 4 month old black smoke Devon Rex. as some of you guessed in my previous post, he is to be Fae's new friend/brother. we're super glad to have him. :)) like everyone, Iggy has a story.... here's his (as far as i know it):

effects of the rash still visible on his head; fur is short & dull

Iggy had a loving family with other cats, a dog and a kid(s) but sadly he got very sick and his owner surrendered him to the RSPCA (Americans, think ASPCA). you see, Iggy has a very strange and terrible allergy. :( he was somehow allergic to one of his previous owner's cats (a fellow Devon!) but not to the other cat! his skin broke out terribly and he lost a lot of his fur. at the RSPCA he was put into foster care while his health improved and this is where our adoption story begins...

i have mentioned here how we felt that Fae had been acting rather lonely/lethargic lately... this lead me to casually browsing adoption/for sale listings looking for potential friends for Fae. i wasn't seriously looking because i was still very uncertain as to whether Fae would be alright with another cat and our lease only allowed for one. anyway, 3ish weeks ago i was browsing the RSPCA database (for those who don't know, i volunteer at the RSPCA) and i found Iggy's file. The photo was horrible because Iggy looked horrible when it was taken, but I was in love! BUT i kept Iggy to myself. for the next week I tired to forget about him.

he has to smell everything, of course.

a week goes by and i couldn't stand it anymore. me and the other human already agreed that Fae was acting strange-- even more so then than previously-- and we both concluded that a friend might be a good thing for her if we could find one that was suitable. well, i started casually mentioning Iggy and eventually showed Iggy's file to the other human. he liked Iggy too but we were still undecided and went back and forth on the issue for the next week.

this past sunday i woke up determined to call the RSPCA to at least find out how he was doing at his foster home and let them know that someone was interested in him. i was worried because if he wasn't recovering welll he would probably end up being euthanized and even if he were recovering well they may euthanize him anyway if they deem his condition too hard to find a home for.... i wanted them to know that someone was interested in him despite his condition.

upon calling the RSPCA, i was told that his condition was improving but he still wasn't well. as i had feared, the person on the other end of the line voiced concern about him being adopted because even though his breed was very desirable his condition was not. she wasn't sure when/if he would leave his foster home and become available for adoption, but she said that she would keep me updated on his condition. :)

the next day (this past monday) i received a call from another person at the RSPCA. again i was told about his condition-- that it is something that he would possibly need lifelong treatment for etc-- and then i was asked if i wanted to meet him. of course i jumped at the opportunity, despite the fact that Iggy was at a shelter 2hrs drive away! i told the person that we would come on thursday.

fast forward to yesterday, the day of the most exciting and anxious roadtrip ever! we drove to Toowoomba, a small mountain town west of Brisbane. it was the farthest west i've been in Queensland yet and was a really interesting ride, but i'll skip that part. :P we arrived at the small RSPCA shelter sometime around 2pm and was taken to meet Iggy who had been brought back to the shelter and was staying in a kennel in the cattery.

talk about a talkative cat! i thought Fae was really talkative, but Iggy takes the cake. he wandered around free in the small cattery talking up a storm and exploring everything while we watched and talked to the adoptions person. even in the environment that was the kitten-filled cattery Iggy had quite the personality. we loved him and decided to take him home with us. :) after filling out some paperwork we made the 2hr trek home with a very scared/angry and LOUD Iggy in a box in my lap (see previous post). it was a very, VERY long ride home.........

sorry for the delayed update! Fae went to the vet on wednesday. the visit went alright, although Fae didn't handle it nearly as well as her previous visits due to having to be examined a lot more thoroughly this time. she didn't much care for being "manhandled". :P

pardonon pro la malrapida novaĵo! merkrede Fae vizitis la bestkuraciston. la vizito glate iris malgraŭ tio, ke por Fae ĝi ne tiel glate iris kiel pasintaj vizitoj. ĉi-foje la bestkuracisto devis ekzameni ŝin multoble pli ol antaŭe kaj ne plaĉis al Fae la "manipulado". :P

while the vet visit went well, it really only confirmed suspicions that i already had. the vet confirmed that Fae has an allergy, but to what is still unknown. a flea allergy, which is supposedly the most common allergy in cats, was immediately ruled out narrowing the possibilities down to a food allergy or an environmental allergy... which isn't really narrowing it down much at all.

nu, la vizito glate iris, tamen ĝi simple jesigis supozojn, kiujn mi jam havis. la bestkuracisto konfirmis, ke Fae ja havas alergion, sed kian alergion oni ankoraŭ ne scias. la plej ofta alergio por katoj, alergio pro puloj, estis tuj neigita, do restas ankoraŭ du specoj de alergioj: alergio pro manĝaĵo kaj alergio pro ĉirkaŭaĵoj.... do, efektive restas MULTE da eblecoj.

the vet highly suggested that we put Fae on a trial diet of one "novelty" protein (meat) for 8 weeks, gradually reintroducing other food after that... the major problem that we have with this is that novelty meat like duck, rabbit, quail etc aren't easily found here and thus are fairly expensive. i imagine that it would be VERY costly to feed Fae nothing but this for 8 weeks. furthermore, while the vet said that such a limited diet would be alright temporarily, i still wouldn't be entirely comfortable with it...

speaking of novelty meat, just before the vet visit we happened to buy some organic (yay!) duck breast for Fae. i really wanted to add a little more variety to Fae's diet and she had never had duck before. she loves it! but that duck cost $24 AUD/$26 USD for only 400g/14oz! crazy. duck will definitely STAY a novelty meat.

anyway, back to the vet. i told the vet my concern about costs and she recommended trying goat meat as she had heard that it is really cheap. she also mentioned that cats seem to have a love/hate relationship with it. i have never seen goat before, so...

all hope is not lost, however. me and the other human now suspect that her allergy may be from her treats rather than her food as the timing of her scratching episodes (of which this isn't the first, this is just the first i've mentioned it here) seems similar to when we were giving her this particular treat. we'll be getting new treats for her this weekend and will be watching her closely to see if she improves.

for those who don't know already, Fae can be a little terror when it comes to food. she's gotten much better since we first got her, but still eating and cooking around her is like having a whiny toddler constantly at your feet and attempting to steal your food. ANY food (except maybe salad) that she can get her mouth on she will.

IAN AJN manĝaĵon (eble escepte de salato), kiun ŝi povas manĝi ŝi manĝos.

anyway, 2 days ago i made quesadillas and stupidly left an open package of shredded cheese on the kitchen counter... a few minutes later i heard a noise in the kitchen, went to check it out and there was Fae with her head in the bag chowing down. i have no idea how much she ate, but that night she obviously wasn't feeling well. she parked herself on a pillow and would hardly move. i could have dressed her in cat clothing and she wouldn't have fought me, that's how bad she was. needless to say i was worried, but thankfully she felt better the next morning. however, it's been 2 days now and she hasn't pooed and she's been crying more, so i think she's constipated as that's what often happens to humans who eat too much cheese.

ĉiuokaze, antaŭ 2 tagoj mi  kuiris "kesadijojn" kaj stultege forgesis fermi kaj remeti sakon da erigita fromaĝo en fridujon, forlasinte ĝin en la kuirejo.... post kelkaj minutoj mi aŭdis sonon en la kuirejo kaj iris por vidi kio okazis. mi vidis, ke la kapo de Fae estis tute en la sako de fromaĝo manĝante feliĉe. mi ne scias, kiom da fromaĝo ŝi manĝis, sed tiun nokton ŝi fariĝis malsana. ŝi kuŝis sur kuseno kaj apenaŭ moviĝis. mi povus eĉ vesti ŝin per vestoj por katoj kaj ŝi eĉ ne batalus kontraŭ mi-- ŝi estis tiele malsana. kompreneble mi tri zorgis pri tio, sed dankinde ŝi pli bone fartis la sekvan matenon. tamen, jam pasis 2 tagoj kaj ŝi ankoraŭ ne fekis kaj ŝi krias pli ofte ol kutime. mi pensas, ke fekado fariĝis malfacila por ŝi pro tro multe da fromaĝo, same kiel por homoj.

tonight i gave Fae a little butternut squash because i've been told that pumpkin & squash helps with constipation. i cut it up and boiled it in a little water with a little butter and then smashed it up and gave Fae a little once it had cooled. she absolutely LOVED it. it's the first time i've given Fae a veggie and it was cool to see that she absolutely adored it. since Fae only needed a little there was some left for us humans, so i added a little milk to it and we ate it all up. i must say that i adored it too. :) hopefully it'll help Fae feel better.

ĉi nokte mi donis al ŝi malmulte da kukurbo, kiu nomiĝas "butternut"a kukurbo ĉar iu diris al mi, ke kukurbo estas bona por tiu malsano. mi tranĉis kaj boligis ĝin en malmulte da akvo kun malmulte da butero kaj poste dispremis ĝin. mi donis malmulte da ĝi al ŝi kiam ĝi malvarmiĝis kaj ŝi TUTE amegis ĝin. estas la unua fojo por mi doni al ŝi legomon kaj estis mojose vidi, ke ŝi tiom multe amis ĝin. restis iom da kukurbo por ni homoj ĉar Fae bezonis nur tre malmulte, do mi aldonis iom da lakto al ĝi kaj ni finmanĝis ĝin. ankaŭ mi amegis ĝin. :) espereble ĝi helpos ŝin farti plibone.

vet success / bestkuraceja sukceso

today's visit to the vet was a success. Fae is so well behaved, it's amazing! anyway, she received her second vaccination, flea treatment and intestinal wormer. when i asked about a possible vaccination against the cat flu i was told that the vaccination she was scheduled to get was against feline leukemia AND the cat flu, so she should be alright. the vet, who also has a Devon, said that she suspected Fae to be younger than the 2yrs that the RSPCA had guessed her to be because she's so energetic... could Fae be 1-something yrs old?? hmmmmmm....... also, it seems like Fae has gained some weight! she was 2.9kg/6lbs when we took her to the vet dec. 17th and now she's 3.2kg/7lbs! D: i suppose that she was a bit underweight at 2.9kg so the weight gain is good, but she gained it in such a short period of time... it's definitely time i start weighing all of her food properly so that she doesn't gain any more! lucky for her she wont have to visit the vet again for another year provided she doesn't get sick or hurt. :)

la hodiaŭa vizito kun la bestkuracisto estis sukceso. Fae estis tute bona ĉe la bestkuracejo-- estas mirinde! ĉiuokaze, ŝi ricevis duan vakcinadon kaj malhelpilojn(?) kontraŭ puloj kaj parazitoj. kiam mi petis al la bestkuracisto pri vakcinado kontraŭ la kat-gripo, ŝi diris, ke la vakcinado, kiun ŝi ricevos estas kontraŭ kaj kat-leŭkemio kaj kat-gripo. :) ŝi ankaŭ diris, ke ŝi mem havas DevonRekson kaj ŝi opinias, ke Fae estas pli juna ol 2jaraĝa ĉar ŝi estas tre energia. la RSPCA diris, ke ŝi estas 1jaraĝa, sed eble ili malpravis...?? ĉu eble Fae vere havas nur 1+ jaron??? hmmmmmmm........ plue, verŝajne Fae fariĝis pli peza! kiam ni portis ŝin bestkuracejen je la 17a de decembro ŝi havis 2.9kg/6f sed nun ŝi havas 3.2kg/7f! :O mi supozas, ke ŝi estis iome tro malpeza kiam ni unue adoptis ŝin kaj do fariĝi pli peza estas bone, sed dum tiom mallonga tempo ŝi fariĝis tiom pli peza... mi nepre devas pesi ŝian manĝaĵon por ke ŝi ne plu plipeziĝi!dankinde por Fae, ŝi ne devos ree iri al la bestkuracejo ĝis 1 jaro poste se ŝi ne malsaniĝos/doloriĝos. :)

tomorrow Fae has an appointment at The Cat Clinic for her second round of vaccinations. i'm considering asking about a possible vaccination against the cat flu (does such a thing even exist?) since i come into contact with it at the RSPCA and i really don't want to pass it on to her... changing my clothes and showering as soon as i get home from the RSPCA is all well and good, but i'd feel a lot better if there was something else protecting her from the virus. also i'm very curious to see if Fae has gained any weight because i haven't been weighing out her raw food like i should. ^^;

morgaŭ ni portos Fae al bestkuracejo por ke ŝi ricevu duafoje vakcinojn. mi pensas pri peti pri vakcino ktp pri la kat-gripo ĉar mi renkontas katojn ĉe la RSPCA, kiuj havas tiun malsanon kaj mi ege ne volas, ke ankaŭ Fae fariĝos malsana. mi jam ŝanĝas miajn vestaĵojn tuj post mi alvenas hejmen post iri al la RSPCA kaj mi eĉ duŝas min, sed mi estus pli trankvila, se io alia protektus ŝin de la malsano. mi ankaŭ estas tre scivolema pri la korpa pezo de Fae ĉar lastatempe mi ne pesas ŝian manĝaĵon. :S

since this is a completely random post, i might as well mention that i think Fae's raw diet has improved her skin/fur! when we first got her the skin/fur along her spine was really rough and dry... it felt completely different from the rest of her and there was hardly any hair there. even the vet commented on it when we took her in for the first time. now, however, that area feels no different from anywhere else and this happened in the span of 2 weeks with only 1 meal a day if that being raw! i am amazed. :)

ĉar ĉi tiu blogaĵo temas pri hazardaĵoj, mi ankaŭ menciu, ke mi pensas ke la kruda manĝaĵo de Fae plibonigis ŝian felton kaj harojn! kiam ni unue portis ŝin hejmen, la felto laŭ ŝia vertebraro sentis raspa kaj seka.... ĝi sentis tute malsama al ŝiaj aliaj haroj kaj haŭto. eĉ la bestkuracisto rimarkis pri ĝi kiam ni unue portis ŝin al la bestkuracejo. sed nun tie la haŭto kaj haroj sentas tute samaj al la aliaj kaj tio ŝanĝo okazis dum nur 2 semajnoj de po 1 kruda manĝaĵo ĉiuduatage! mirinde. :)

lately Fae hasn't seemed entirely herself and after much research i've concluded that it's my fault. i'd been giving her a chicken drumstick for dinner about 2~3 times a week and there was too much bone compared to the amount of meat, so she became constipated. :( i've since stopped giving her drumsticks and have started giving her boneless, slightly fatty thighs to help loosen her poo and hopefully help her feel better.

lastatempe Fae ne ŝajnis tute bona kaj post multe da esplorado, mi konkludis, ke ŝia malbona stato estas la mia kulpo. mi donis la suban parton de koka kruro al ŝi po 2~3foje semajne kaj en tio estas pli da osto ol viando, do ŝia fekaĵo fariĝis tro malmola. :( nun anstataŭ tiu kokaĵo mi donas al ŝi kokan femuron senostan kaj grasetan por plimoligi ŝian fekaĵon por ke ŝi fartu pli bone.

The Cat Clinic / La Kat-Klinik'

 in the time in between having written my last entry and having got up this morning, i decided it would be best to take Fae to the vet because her sneezes were becoming fairly frequent and wetter. while she still didn't show any other symptoms like loss of appetite or discharge from her eyes, i couldn't sleep easy knowing that she'd more than likely get worse and worse the longer she went untreated. when i got up this morning i called a nearby branch of The Cat Clinic because i had seen their website and had seen the clinic once in passing. thankfully they had a spot open this morning.

dum kiam mi skribis la lastan blogaĵon kaj vekiĝis ĉi-matene, mi decidis, ke estus plej bone se mi portus Fae al bestkuracejo ĉar ŝia ternado fariĝis pli oftaj kaj malsekaj. malgraŭ tio, ke ŝi ankoraŭ ne havis aliajn simptomojn (ekzemple manko de apetito aŭ fluaĵo el ŝiaj okuloj), mi ne povis bone dormi sciante, ke ŝi nur pli kaj pli kaj pli malsaniĝus se ŝi ne ricevus kuracon. ĉi-matene kiam mi ellitiĝis, mi telefonis al proksima kliniko por katoj, kiu nomiĝas La Kat-Klinik' ĉar antaŭe mi vidis ilian ttt-ejon kaj hazarde preteriris la klinikon. dankinde ĉi-matene ili ne estis tute okupata kaj do mi rajtis porti ŝin tien.

our first experience at a vet with Fae was pleasant. Fae is so brave and well behaved! she took the temperature-taking and pill-popping way better than any of my previous cats. in fact, she was sociable the whole time. :) as for the clinic, it was nice and not overly expensive. the vet that we saw was really nice and seemed very knowledgeable of cats. she said that Fae definitely had cat flu but that it was still only minor at this point, which was good. hopefully it wont turn full-blown and be with her for life.... the vet prescribed an antibiotic and also treated her for fleas which for some reason hadn't responded at all to Advantage. when i asked her about Fae's diet, she made it clear that she didn't much care for even premium dry food and recommended that it only be on the side. she also recommended a fresh raw food diet of chicken wings, drumsticks and necks etc, so i guess that's another tally to add to my list of people recommending raw food. :P later i ended up buying some chicken drumsticks and will freeze them for future trial.

nia unua sperto ĉe bestkuracejo kun Fae estis agrabla. Fae estis tre kuraĝa kaj bonkonduta! ŝi estis tute bona eĉ kiam la bestkuracisto metis termetron en ŝian pugon kaj pilolon en ŝian buŝon! miaj antaŭaj katoj kondutis pli malbone tiam. fakte, Fae estis tre afabla la tutan tempon. :) kaj pri la kliniko, ĝi estis bona kaj ne tro multekosta. kaj pri la bestkuracisto, ŝi estis tre afabla kaj ŝajnis, ke ŝi bone scias pri katoj. ŝi diris, ke Fae ja suferis de la kata gripo, sed nuntempe ĝi ankoraŭ ne estas serioza malsano. tio estas bona...  espereble ĝi ne plimalboniĝos kaj ŝi ne suferos de ĝi dum ŝia tuta vivo.... la bestkuracisto donis al ni antibiotikon kaj ankaŭ manĝigis al Fae kuracon pri puloj ĉar iale la antaŭe donita kuraco pri puloj ("Advantage") nenion faris. kiam mi demandis al ŝi pri la dieto de Fae, ŝi senhezite diris, ke ne plaĉas al ŝi eĉ seka bestmanĝaĵo bonkvalita kaj ŝi rekomendis, ke ĝi nur estus kroma manĝaĵo. ŝi ankaŭ rekomendis, dieto de diversa kruda kokaĵo ktp. mi devas aldoni ŝin al mia listo pri homoj, kiuj rekomendas krudan viandon. :P ĉiuokaze, poste mi aĉetis kelkan kokaĵon kaj mi glaciigos ĝin por posta provdonado.

back to Fae's sneezing, i'm happy to say it has improved already. :) she's sneezing less frequently and the sneezes are starting to be drier. hopefully she'll be back to 100% in no time.

sneezing / ternado

for the past two days Fae has been sneezing. not really really frequently but frequently enough to notice and be concerned. it didn't just start 2 days ago, but it got more frequent around that time. i'm a volunteer (amateur) photographer at a local RSPCA shelter and so i come in contact with cats that have cat flu very often. since it's so contagious it's currently a major problem at the shelter, sadly... however, i haven't seen any other symptom of it in Fae aside from sneezing. PLUS since i got her i hadn't even gone to my RSPCA shelter until today and she came from a different RSPCA shelter entirely. it doesn't seem like she'd have cat flu, but then again i'm no vet.... she will be going into the vet shortly after new years for scheduled vaccinations etc, so hopefully the sneezing will at the very least not get worse before then. :/ now that i have a cat at home i'll have to be extra careful handling cats at the RSPCA.

dum la pasintaj du tagoj Fae tenadis. ne tre tre ofte, sed tiom ofte, ke oni rimarkus kaj prizorgus ĝin. la tenado ne komencis antaŭ 2 tagoj, sed ĝi plioftiĝis ĉirkaŭ tiam. mi estas volontula (amatora) fotisto ĉe loka RSPCA best-ŝirmejo kaj do mi ofte renkontas katojn, kiuj suferas de "kata gripo". ĉar "kata gripo" estas tre komunikebla, nuntempe ĉe la mia best-ŝirmejo ĝi estas grandega problemo, bedaŭrinde... tamen, je Fae mi ankoraŭ ne vidis neniun alian simptomon pri ĝi krom tenado. PLUE ekde mi havis Fae, mi eĉ ne iris al la mia best-ŝirmejo ĝis hodiaŭ kaj mi adoptis Fae ĉe tute aparta best-ŝirmejo. ŝajnas al mi, ke ŝi ne suferas de kata gripo, sed mi certe ne estas bestkuracisto..... baldaŭ post la novjaro mi portos ŝin al bestkuracejo por ricevi vakcinadojn ktp, do espereble ŝia tenado ne pli malboniĝos antaŭ tiam. :/ mi devos esti tre tre zorgema pri miaj renkontoj kun katoj ĉe la RSPCA ĉar mi nun havas katon hejme.

anyway, after going to the RSPCA today having handled no known "catchoo cats" (as we call them), i was going through and editing my photos while Fae was curled up in my lap (she's such a lap cat <333). a couple of times she'd look up at my laptop screen, see a cat and stare at it wide-eyed until i closed or minimized the photo. once again i was made to wonder about Fae's past and why she's so "grrr" about other cats. if only i were a cat psychic. :(
