long time no see! sorry for being away from the blog for so long, we ended up being without the internet for almost 3 weeks. :( it's been so long since my last update that i honestly don't even know where to start with this post....

saluton ree! pardonon pro ne ĝisdatigi la blogon delonge. bezonis preskaŭ 3 semajnoj por la interreto esti instaligita ĉe la nova domo. :( jam forpasis tiel multe da tempo ĝis la lasta ĝisdatigo, ke mi eĉ ne scias pri kio mi ĝisdatigu nun......

scaredy Iggy / timema Iggy

the move went without incident. Fae handled everything really well and wanted free roam of the new house as soon as we let her out of her carrier, but we made her stay in a room with Iggy. Iggy, on the other hand, didn't take things so well at first. he seems to have separation/abandonment issues and always gets really nervous and withdrawn/depressed whenever he's taken somewhere.  :/ as soon as we let him out of his carrier into a room in the new house he burrowed his way in between two pillows on a bed and hide for hours. Fae was awesome and comforted him whenever she wasn't at the closed door screaming. D; once they were allowed to explore the house Iggy was up and running around as usual. i think once he realized that he wasn't being left somewhere he was fine. :) they settled into the new place within a day and it was as if we had never lived anywhere else!

kontrolas la vidaĵon de ilia nova ĉambro.

la transloĝiĝado tute glate iris. Fae traktis la aferon tute bone kaj tuj volis libere esplori la nova domo kiam ni malfermis ŝian portilon (kaĝon), sed ni fermis ŝin kaj Iggy-n en unu ĉambro de la domo. aliaflanke, je la komenco Iggy ne tute bone traktis la aferon. ŝajnas, ke li havas grandan timon pri fordonado/forlasado ĉar ĉiam li fariĝas ege nervosa, tima kaj nerespondema kiam ni portas lin ien ajn. :/ kiam ni malfermis lian portilon en ĉambro ĉe la nova domo li tuj kaŝis sin inter la kusenoj sur lito. tie kaj tiel li restis dum kelkaj horoj. Fae estis bonega kaj komfortigis lin kiam ŝi ne estis laŭte krianta ĉe la fermita pordo de la ĉambro. :P kiam ni permesis, ke ili esploru la domon, Iggy feliĉiĝis kaj kuris ĉien kiel kutime. mi opinias, ke kiam li rimarkis, ke li ne estos fordonita/forlasita li tute feliĉiĝis. :) ne pasis 24h kaj ili jam tute alkutimiĝis al la nova domo. estis kvazaŭ ni eĉ ne loĝis aliloke antaŭe!

"Fae la Komfortisto"

Iggy has been to the vet twice over the past two weeks. his dermatitis had gotten pretty bad and he was scratching and licking himself until he had sores all over. :( on the first visit the vet agreed with us that it was probably an environmental or seasonal allergy and said that there was no way to really know for sure without an expensive allergy test that may or may not even been really conclusive. she said that Iggy's condition had gotten pretty serious and recommended that we try antibiotics and/or cortisone, but also noted that cortisone had side effects and that we might want to avoid it for now. Iggy was given an antibiotics injection that was suppose to last for 2 weeks and we brought him home. he seemed to be scratching/licking less for a day or two, but by day three he was just as itchy as before. :( we tried revealing his itchiness with a bath and i continued to put salmon (omega-3) oil into his food to help his skin.

Iggy vizitis la bestokuracejo jam du foje dum la pasintaj du semajnoj. lia "dermatitis" (malsano pri la haŭto) fariĝis tre malbona kaj li gratadis kaj lekis sin ĝis li havis vundojn preskaŭ ĉie. :( dum la unua vizito la bestokuracisto konsentis, ke li verŝajne havis alergion kontraŭ io en la biomedio aŭ laŭ la sezono, sed oni ne vere povas scii krom fari multekostan ekzamenon pri alergioj.... kaj eĉ tiu ekzameno eble ne vere klarigos kontraŭ kio li havas alergion. ŝi diris, ke la stato de la haŭto de Iggy ja estis tre malbona kaj rekomendis al ni antibiotikojn kaj/aŭ "cortisone" ("kortizonon"?). tamen, ŝi sciigis nin, ke "cortisone" havas kelkajn malbonajn kromefikojn kaj eble estus bone eviti tiun medicinon nuntempe. la bestkuracisto injektis la antibiotikon en Iggy-n kaj laŭ ŝi la antibiotiko daŭrus 2 semajnojn. dum unu aŭ du tagoj ŝajnis, ke Iggy malpli ofte gratis/lekis sin, sed post tri tagoj li jam gratis/lekis sin tiel ofte kiel antaŭe. :( ni provis mildigi la jukadon de lia haŭto per bano kaj mi daŭre donis al li oleon de salmo (= oleo Omeg-3) en lia manĝaĵo por helpi lian haŭton.

last tuesday when he went back to the vet he was seen by a different vet. she said that antibiotics really wasn't treating the problem at all and that Iggy's skin did look pretty bad. she too mentioned allergy testing but also recommended skin oil and cortisone. because we can't try both at the same time (because if something worked there would be no way of knowing which treatment worked), we decided that we would get both the skin oil and the cortisone but would try the oil first to try to avoid cortisone's side effects. we'll be keeping a close eye on Iggy and hope to see some improvement soon! we will also continue with his baths once a week and salmon (Omega-3) oil.

la pasintan mardon li ree vizitis la bestokuracejo sed al malsama bestokuracisto. ŝi diris, ke la antibiotikoj tute ne helpis la problemon kaj laŭ ŝi, la haŭto de Iggy ja estis tre malbona. ankaŭ ŝi rekomendis ekzamenon pri alergioj, sed ŝi ankaŭ rekomendis oleon por la haŭto kaj "cortisone". ĉar ni ne povas provi ambaŭ samtempe (ĉar se iu kuracado sukcese helpas la haŭton de Iggy oni ne povus scii, kiu kuracado ĝin helpis), ni decidis porti ambaŭ hejmen kaj unue provos la oleon por la haŭto. se eble, ni evitos la "cortisone" pro la kromefikoj. ni tre atente rigardos Iggy-n kaj esperas, ke baldaŭ ni vidos pliboniĝadon! ni daŭre banos lin po unu fojo semajne kaj daŭre donos al li oleon de salmo (Omega-3).

later today Fae will be going to the vet for her annual vaccination. there shouldn't be any problems there. :) photos of them exploring the new house to come tomorrow & lots more to come in the future, but sorry if my posts are a little spread apart! i'm juggling lots of things at the moment.

post kelkaj horoj Fae vizitos la bestokuracejo por ricevi la ĉiujaran vakcinadon. verŝajne tio tute glate iros kaj estos neniu problemo. :) mi afiŝos fotojn pri ilia unua esplorado de la nova domo morgaŭ kaj multe da aliaj fotoj estontece, sed pardonon se miaj blogaĵoj estas ne tre oftaj! nuntempe mi havas tro multe da farendaĵoj.

upon returning to Brisbane on July 22nd we went (on very little sleep!) to go pick up the cats. to our relief, they were fine and very glad to see us. silly me was worried that they may have started to forget us or that they'd be really mad at us! but no, we were immediately greeted with loud purrs and lots of love. :) according to the people at the cattery, they settled in quickly and had been fine the whole time.

post nia reveno al Brisbano je la 22a de julio ni lacege veturis al kat-hotelo por hejmenporti la katojn. ni ege ege trankviliĝis kiam mi eksciis, ke ĉio estis bona dum nia vojaĝo kaj ili estis tre feliĉaj pro nin vidi. kiel stultulo, mi pensadis, ke eble ili forgesus nin aŭ ke ili estus ege koleraj al ni! sed ne, ili senhezite nin salutis per laŭtaj ronronoj kaj multe da amo. :) laŭ la homoj ĉe la kat-hotelo, ili rapide alkutimiĝis al ilia ĉambro kaj fartis bone ĉiam.

"must....DRY...!!!" / "devas.... SEKIGI....!!!"

once we got back home it was almost as if they'd never left. while we humans tried to nap, Fae & Iggy ran around like lunatics. maybe it was the excitement of being home? once we gave up sleeping we gave them both baths as they were both absolutely filthy. Iggy handled his first bath (with us) very well. :)

kiam mi revenis hejme estis subite kvazaŭ ili neniam foriris. dum ni homoj provadis dormeti, Fae k Iggy kuradaĉis tra la tuta apartamento kvazaŭ frenezuloj. eble pro la ekscitiĝo de reveni hejme? kiam ni rezignis niajn dormetojn, ni banis ilin ĉar ili ambaŭ estis terurege malpuregaj. Iggy kondutis tre bone dum lia unua bano (kun ni). :)

wanting to go outside / deziras ekstereniri

i've noticed some changes in them since they've been back. for one, they have a new found love of being outside, especially Iggy. i feel bad that all we have is a balcony here since they obviously loved the outdoor enclosure/garden. :( also, their fights have become a lot rougher. don't get me wrong, they're still not out to hurt each other, but if looks could kill they'd have killed each other by now. also, Iggy has become a pro at bodyslamming poor Fae! BUT at the same time they are still very affectionate towards each other and Iggy has even started to reciprocate Fae's cleaning! :D

mi rimarkis kelkajn ŝanĝojn en ili ekde kiam ili revenis hejme. ekzemple, ili nun havas novan pli grandan amon pri esti ekstere, precipe Iggy. mi ege malĝojas, ke ĉe nia apartamento estas nur balkono ĉar evidente ili tute amis la fermigitan ĝardenon. :( plue, iliaj bataloj fariĝis multe pli malmildaj. bv ne miskompreni min, ili ankoraŭ ne deziras dolorigi unu la alian, sed se mienoj povus mortigi ion, ili jam delonge mortigus unu la alian. kaj verŝajne Iggy fariĝis spertulo pri venki kompatindan Fae-n! SED samtempe ili ankoraŭ estas tre amikema al unu la alia kaj nun Iggy eĉ reciproke purigas Fae-n! :D

last but not least, after the initial "OMG YAY I'M HOME!!", Fae acted rather strangely which made us worry about her. she lacked her usual enthusiasm about food-- something that's strikingly noticeable as she usually has so much of it-- and she was acting rather sluggish and lethargic. even though i transitioned them back to a raw diet slowly, when given food of any kind she often barely ate without lots of encouragement. much of her first week back she spent sleeping and wouldn't even play with her favorite balls. :/ it should also be noted that she gained weight while away and had a sore on her neck where she probably scratched herself raw from anxiety. it took a week+ for the Fae that we know and love to return to her normal energetic, food-loving self, but now she's back and hopefully here to stay!

kaj ankoraŭ unu ekzemplo: post la komenca "HMD MI ESTAS HEJME JEJ!!", Fae kondutis iom strange kaj ni ege zorgis pri ŝi. mankis al ŝi ŝia kutima "fajro" (entuziasmo) pri manĝaĵo-- kiu estis ege rimarkenda ĉar kutime ŝi havas tiel multe da ĝi-- kaj ŝi ŝajnis tute senenergia kaj letargia. malgraŭ tio, ke mi tre malrapide ŝanĝis ilian manĝaĵon ree al kruda manĝaĵo, ofte ŝi preskaŭ nenion manĝis krom se ni multe kuraĝigis ŝin. dum la plejparto de ŝia unua semajno hejme ŝi dormadis kaj eĉ ne volis ludi per ŝiaj plej ŝatataj pilkoj. :/ plue mi ankaŭ diru, ke ŝi plipeziĝis dum ŝia restado ĉe la kat-hotelo kaj sur ŝia kolo estis vundo, kie ŝi verŝajne tro ofte/multe sin gratadis pro anksio. bezonis pli ol unu semajno por ke Fae refariĝi energia kaj manĝegema kiel kutime, sed nun ŝi denove fartas bone kaj espereble ĉiam estos tiel!

on Monday July 11th we drove Fae and Iggy to the Cat's Meow in preparation for our trip to Singapore. the drive took around 45mins and on the way Iggy got really nervous. so nervous that he threw up his breakfast & even pooed a little in his carrier. :(( Fae was very nervous too, but Iggy a lot more so, understandably. we had only gotten him a month before and that required an agonizing (for Iggy) 2 hour drive....

lunde la 11a de julio ni veturigis aŭte Fae-n kaj Iggy-n al la Cat's Meow por prepari vojaĝi al Singapuro. ni veturis dum ĉ. 45 minutoj kaj laŭvoje Iggy fariĝis ege nervoza. tiel nervoza, ke li vomis sian matenmanĝaĵon kaj eĉ iome fekis en sia portilo. :(( ankaŭ Fae estis tre nervoza, sed kompreneble Iggy estis multoble pli pro ni adoptis lin nur 1 monato antaŭe kaj tiam li devis veturi aŭte dum 2 teruregaj (por Iggy) horoj....

once we got Iggy cleaned up and checked them in, things looked up... kind of. the suite was very nice with a heated room including a tunnel, bed, litter trays and a little box thing for them to hide in. the attached enclosed garden was an immediate fav.

post ni alvenis al la kat-hotelo kaj Iggy estis purigita, aferoj pliboniĝis... iome. la ĉambro estis tre bona kaj enhavis varmigilon, tunelon, liton, kat-necesejojn kaj malgranda skatolo en kiu ili povis ilin kaŝi. la apuda ĉirkaŭfermita ĝardeno subite fariĝis ilia plej ŝatata loko.

upon letting Fae out of her carrier all of her nervousness seemed to turn to anger. she was hissing and spitting and growling all over the place, even at Iggy. :/ the owner of the cattery had several of her cats there wandering around freely who also felt Fae's fury, although they handled it with ease as they were probably used to it.

kiam ni lasis Fae eliri ŝian portilon, ĉiom da ŝia nervozeco verŝajne fariĝis kolero. ŝi siblis kaj blekegis ĉien kaj al ĉiuj, eĉ al Iggy. :/ la posedanto de la kat-hotelo havis kelkajn katojn, kiuj libere vagis ĉie kaj kompreneble ankaŭ ili ricevis la koleron de Fae, tamen ili jam delonge alkutimiĝis al koleraj katoj.

Iggy made a friend? / Iggy gajnis amikon?

Iggy was smart and immediately went up onto a high perch in the garden and stayed out of Fae's way. there was a talkative Burmese(?) in the garden suite across the hall from theirs whom Iggy seemed to take a liking to.

Iggy estis tre saĝa kaj tuj supreniris al alta kuŝejo sur la muro de la ĝarden-palisaro por eviti la kolero de Fae. trans la piedvojo en la ĝardena ĉambro apud ili estis babilema Birma(?) kato kun kiu Iggy verŝajne ŝatis.

we stayed with them for about 30 minutes trying to help them both calm down and settle in. Iggy was shivering (for various reasons knowing Iggy), so we gave him lots of love & attention + put one of the blankets that we'd brought with us on him since he loves them.

ni restis kun ili dum ĉ. 30 minutoj kaj provadis trankviligi ilin kaj helpi ilin alkultimiĝi al la ĉambro. Iggy trembladis (mi supozas ke li tion faris plurkiale), do ni donis al li multe da atento kaj amo + surmetis sur li tapiŝon, kiun ni portis el la domo ĉar li ĝin amas.

we tried to comfort Fae too, but that was hard to do with very limited success. at least she had lots to distract her, like the horses wandering in the fields outside, birds, plants etc, but then she found the food dish....... they were given a constant supply of "premium" dry food and Fae turned to stuffing her face in it right away, as to be expected of a gluttonous Devon Rex. i swear "gluttony" should be every Devon's middle name. can you imagine how much weight she put on???

ni ankaŭ provis trankviligi Fae-n, sed tio estis ege malfacila kaj plejparte nesukcesa. almenaŭ estis multe da aferoj por ŝi distri, ekz. ĉevaloj vagantaj en la apudaj kampoj, birdoj, kreskaĵoj, ktp. sed, bedaŭrinde, ŝi trovis la manĝaĵ-bovlon........ ili ricevis ĉiam bovlon plenan da seka "bonkvalita" manĝaĵo kaj Fae tuj manĝadis kaj manĝadis ĝin, tute kutima afero por manĝegema DevonRekso. sendube la meznomo de ĉiu DevonRekso estu "Manĝegemo". ĉu vi povas imagi, kiom pli peza Fae fariĝis???

sadly, we had to leave the still nervous Fae & Iggy behind. :( we requested access to the webcam that was installed into their room, but sadly it wasn't working at the time. we worried about them during the entire trip, but was glad that they were in a nice place. tomorrow i'll post photos from when they finally came back home!

bedaŭrinde ni devis forlasi Fae-n k Iggy-n ĉe la kat-hotelo. :( ni petis atingon al la interreta kamero, kiu estis instalita en ilia ĉambro, sed bedaŭrinde tiam ĝi ne funkciis. dum la tuta vojaĝo ni zorgis pri ili, sed ni estis feliĉaj ĉar ili restis en bona loko. morgaŭ mi afiŝos fotojn de kiam ili finfine revenis hejmen!
